Why Does ATB Get Such Bad Treatment Here? (pg. 2)

From a marketing standpoint, the guy does good. He produces music that is catchy and attainable. It's about as "safe-and-sane" as you can get with EDM. Why the guy takes alot of heat. Well it's simple. Listen to his music dating back to 1998. It never changes or evolves. EVER. You can predict what his next song is without fail. Maybe his outlook is one of not fixing what isn't broke, but it lacks evolution and progression. Add to the fact that he did a horrible cover of Seal's - Killer. Well that just added insult to injury.

As a dj, I've seen him twice. The first time it was okay. It was everything I had expected from ATB. Poppy, quirky, and downright sudsy-clean fun. The second time, the music hadn't changed and the mixing was horrid. It seemed like 20 different versions 9pm and mixed badly. I haven't seen him recently because I no longer have interest in his music. I picked up "Summer Rain" awhile back and have yet to play it. It's boring and dull.

Actually I think ATB's music has evolved. Listen to "No Silence" and you'll find ATB's signature sound, but it's a more "matured" sound than "Movin' Melodies". Sure it's still very melodic, but it's his most mature album to date. It's not progressive house, I mean no one should expect him to start producing dark and deep progressive house music or electro even. It's not his style, he seems happy producing what he likes, and he definitely seems to like the more melodic aspects of the music. Even the dance tracks on "No Silence" like "Marrakech" and "Ecstacy" and "Intencity" sound a little more sophisticated than "9 PM Till I Come" or "Don't Stop". The melodies and tracks just sound smoother, more polished, and a little darker might I add.

IMO, he's a poor version of Chicane. As Chicane was able to make a more sophisticated, yet melodic and at points mainstream sound (except IMO he's gone the cheesy route with his new stuff) ATB makes a sound that would be considered less mature, more playful and fun. It's summery, but in a more youthful and silly type of way. ... He can't mix music very well. Just because your a decent producer, doesn't mean you can be a good DJ (the same with BT, i've heard his DJing isn't all that great).

It just seems that now he's really trying too hard to be typecasted but the programming is nearly identical. Now it's ATB toned down. It's just boring and uninteresting to me.

Maybe it's good he has toned some things down. Some of his productions in the past, like on Movin' Melodies, were a bit over the top.

his DJing is horrible, mixing is worse than a 10 year old bedroom dj. seriously.

Sure, and he's probably also bad cook. But thread starter is clearly talking about his music. :)

Yes.

Yeah I also enjoyed that one.

I love ATB as a producer, and as a DJ... well I'll have to wait for March 31st to decide on that.
