Why Does ATB Get Such Bad Treatment Here?

| I personally love his work, granted it is softer, more melodic, and more "poppy" than what people here refer to as hardcore House/Trance. |

i think it was because he was on mainstream radio. then a good number of his songs were using the sittar(sp?), so he was labeled a one-trick whorse.
but since Moving Melodies, he's moved onto a more mature production value and he's just "pretty good" right now. Nothing is ever really astounding from him, but he's a pretty good DJ to make up for that.
i rather like most of his work. calm and placid |

| Because he produces a different kind of Trance. He's not making the typical ASOT-track. People aren't open-minded here that's all. |

| I think it's probably something along the lines of him being a dog producer and an even ter DJ. I could be wrong though. |

Every set Ive heard from him has been utter wank, questionable tunes and seriously bad mixing. |

| He's kinda underrated imo. He may not be the most brilliant producer out there, but he do writes some sweet music. I bought his first two albums Moving Melodies and Two Worlds at the time they were released and i still love them both. I love the relaxing, fresh and summery vibes on them. His sound is very basic and uncomplicated but at the same time he has, or at least had, a recognizable sound. I'm not a fan of his more recent singles with big cheesy synthwork, i like his old album work and even the first singles are great, 9pm, Don't Stop etc, they're classic. |

His vocal stuff is pretty bad IMO, except maybe some of the vocal tracks on "Two Worlds". I rate his albums this way...
1. Movin' Melodies
2. Two Worlds
3. No Silence
4. Dedicated
5. Addicted To Music
IMO, he's a poor version of Chicane. As Chicane was able to make a more sophisticated, yet melodic and at points mainstream sound (except IMO he's gone the cheesy route with his new stuff) ATB makes a sound that would be considered less mature, more playful and fun. It's summery, but in a more youthful and silly type of way. At points he gets kind of sappy, but I feel his more ambient chill-out tracks like "Circular Symetry" are brilliant and if he made more of those types of tracks, IMO he'd be a better rated producer.
He can definitely produce memorable melodies and if your looking for uplifting, his music is almost guranteed to be. You wont find him producing many "dark" tracks, which kind of makes people accuse him of being "cheesy" and just a crappy producer. Surely there's better produces out there, but he's not bad. As a DJ....very poor though. I'll give him that. He can't mix music very well. Just because your a decent producer, doesn't mean you can be a good DJ (the same with BT, i've heard his DJing isn't all that great). |
