First EDM experience? (pg. 3)
View this Thread in Original format
The Ear
1989 ..... Underworld - Rez (this was the big one folkes)
which became/gave birth to:
1991 - Cowgirl

First Party not underground warehouse/rave party)
1999
PVD - The Warehouse (now the KH)

Then the one that truly hooked me in so hard that I could never think of a year complete without attendance at a truly great show:

2002 - Canada Day - Guvernment
Max Graham opening for
Paul Oakenfold (entire complex, all rooms including Skybar flooded with his unbelievable tunage)
This is simply the best party I've ever been to in Toronto.
NOT overcrowded, killer vibe, & Oakey doing it one more time just after his peak .... 7 hours strong on the decks.
I couldn't stop smiling every time I though of the night for weeks afterwards.
SummerCallin
UltraSpin 9
Feb 2006
KH
Blank and jones, mauro picotto, junkie XL
smak
SASH - Ecuador really got me into it ...
It took me 2 years to find out the name of that song....

my first EDM event is Paul Oakenfold at the Guv I think in 2004....
Ministerio
Back when I was 12 or something in Hungary at the beach discos (almost like a european Ibiza)

Greece 2000 - Three Drives on vinyl

However I've been listening to edm since I was 9 years old I think...listening to the likes of Chris Sheppard in Ottawa before I moved to Toronto not long ago..

connected at the better living center in 1999. i believe it was paul oakenfold, dj dan, and bad boy bill... but i was so new to the scene that i couldn't tell the difference. there were 35,000 people at that party from what i read afterwards. definately the biggest one i have ever attended.

Belive it or not but when i was in grade 9 and 10 i was really into hip hop and at some random house party my buddy was like u wanna try some E, i was like OK! i was having a great time but no one was playing any edm then my buddy is liek come listen to this song .... it was Dj Shadow Organ Doner and i think i listed to it at least 15 times in a row as there was no other edm in the house :P

First EDM that I really got into was Crystal Method - Vegas. That CD owned my ass for years. I think i bought it back in like 97 or 98.

First track that really grabbed me: Skip Raiders - Another Day [Perfecto Mix]. A friend gave me the mp3 of it ripped from an oakie EM. I listened to it SO MANY TIMES that i will never be able to get Pete Tong's voice out of my head going "Radio 1's essential mix world tour continues. Tonight be catch up with Paul Oakenfold coming to you live from Home, at Space In Ibiza." then "Its just another day, like any other day." Even just playing it back in my head brings back warm fuzzy feelings.

First Party: Paul Van Dyk, House of Blues, Orlando. And the villa afterparty. I can't go into anymore detail than that, but it was a truly legendary night.

First album was chemical brothers...umm...Exit Planet Dust...fortunately, or unfortunately, for me, I didn't realize there was a "scene" to go along with the music, so I didn't hit my first club event, guvernment LOL 2006, until last year, at least ten years after I got the album. Have been going ever since, and probably will continue to go in some capacity for a long time.:nervous:

Same here. I must have listened to Dreamland at least 200 times.

Then I moved on with The Essential Mix. Etc.. etc...

BTW, his new CDs are pretty good too. Organik is sick! Miles Gurtu is ok.

1998, The legendary Twilo (NYC), PVD on the decks...

Seven Ways, Forbidden Fruit, For an Angel...

nuff said.

He came back a few months later and dropped the whitelabel of "Xpander", "1998" and "Welcome to the Dance"

That was it - game over. Trance was at the peak of its power - it was pure, euphoric and so full of joy...

Should known then it wouldn't last...

Other memorable moments in clubland

Danny Tenaglia and Guests (Deep Dish) @ Vinyl (NYC) 1999 (?) -

Sasha and Digweed before Delta-Heavy.

Sven Vath & Carl Cox in the same room at the same time.

DJ Icy opening for PVD (8 hour extended set)

First Party : Danny Tenaglia @ Tunnel (yup, I was a tunnel rat for a few years). I fell in love that nite. Her name was House Muzik...
