are ridiculous.
| quote: | SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- A California woman whose doctor says marijuana is the only medicine keeping her alive is not immune from federal prosecution on drug charges, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday. The case was brought by Angel Raich, an Oakland mother of two who suffers from scoliosis, a brain tumor, chronic nausea and other ailments. On her doctor's advice, she eats or smokes marijuana every couple of hours to ease her pain and bolster a nonexistent appetite as conventional drugs did not work.
The Supreme Court ruled against Raich two years ago, saying that medical marijuana users and their suppliers could be prosecuted for breaching federal drug laws even if they lived in a state such as California where medical pot is legal.
Because of that ruling, the issue before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was narrowed to the so-called right to life theory: that marijuana should be allowed if it is the only viable option to keep a patient alive.
Raich, 41, began sobbing when she was told of the decision and said she would continue using the drug.
"I'm sure not going to let them kill me," she said. "Oh my God."

| The US government are a bunch of hypocrites. They grow marijuana to give to like three people yr round. And here they are telling a women who might die without the use of the drug that she can't use it. |

oxycodone/hydromorphone/fentanyl for pain.
reglan for nausea.
they'd work. wouldn't boost her appetite though.
but anyway. yeah drug laws are , but i think it's a bit retarded to claim that marijuana is the only thing keeping her alive as those three narcotic analgesics i listed would work better than pot 10 fold for pain. |

The drug laws in the US are completely ridiculous and lack any common sense. If you make a substance that people desire illegal all you do is create a black market economy that inflates the prices of the substance and helps fund criminals and terrorists. And we end up paying for it on both ends because the justice system is clogged full of people who have done nothing but sell drugs. All the drug related crime such as theft and murder is caused by the inflated prices from the black market economy.
We tried this before with prohibition of Alcohol and it was a complete and total failure. Now we are doing the same thing with drugs and we didn't even get a vote on it this time. The sad thing is that it will be very hard to get the drug laws changed because it is such a cash cow for law enforcement. Between Federal dollars for drug enforcement and seized property, local law enforcement agencies will fight hard before they give up their drug money.
It only took us 13 years to figure out prohibition was a failure, I wonder how much longer it will take for us to cut our losses and admin prohibition version 2 is a failure also. |
