if you have more than 256 megs of RAM, go for it by all means, you won't regret; otherwise, windows 2000 is just as good. bloody hell, anything is better than windows ME.

My advice is to get a small hdd for your linux o/s as it can destroy windows partitions.

No, you shouldn't need drivers for ur cd, unless its very old, most are ATAPI, so u shud b ok, WinXP, Win98, and Win2k can be booted straight from cd, just select first boot device as cdrom in bios.

Partitioning hdd is usually done thru FDISK, which should be on a Win98 or WinMe startup floppy disk (not on XP or Win2k, its a dos prog), or you can make one urself, with format on it as well, which is what I use ;) if you want I can send u the files needed to create ur own startup disk and tell ya how to do it, its real easy (must b if i can do it :p)

U can get FDISK from MS-DOS 6.22 if you want. Go here to get it: http://www.bootdisk.com/
When u get it, run the EXE and it'll tell u to insert a blank 3.5-inch Floppy Disk. insert it and hit OK and the Disk will have MS-DOS 6.22 on it in a few seconds. Now, if you system's BIOS is designed to boot from the floppy BEFORE the HDD, just reboot with the MS-DOS 6.22 disk in and it'll boot DOS shortly. When you get the "A:\>" prompt, just type "fdisk" and hit Enter. Run Fdisk now.

I'm running XP and loving every minute of it. Before I was on '98 and crashing hard drives left and right...since I've been on XP I haven't crashed a single one yet (knock on wood).

Get a real os like Linux or BeOs and just keep win98 if you like to play games and stuff.

Micro$hit stuff sux BiG time.

Totally agree - upgrading from Win95 to Win98 was so traumatic that I'd rather keep my Win98 instead of installing those newer versions.

My biggest congratulations go out to the marketing team at Microsoft for convincing all of the people who've opened up their wallets to upgrade to an inferior operating system. 2000 hasn't crashed in 3 years of usage. Enough said.

i vote XP. altho there are some flaws that i do not like, it still makes my computer run very smoothly (even tho i only hav 128 ram) and i havnt had a blue screen, or any errors since ive installed.

hahaha neither! im sitll rocking it in the free world with windows 98, but ive seen many a hard drive wiped by XP, and anyway all the fanct gfx would weigh down my resources, to what aint broek i wont fix! :)
Linx_da_cat
why would i change from 2000? it's like a million times more stable than xp and it's less resource hungry.

i just assembled a new computer for my cousin that's livin' with me now and she wanted xp but i installed 2000 instead. :) it'll always be better than xp.

Windows 2000 of course. Don't look like the look of XP. Hogs up too many resources and memory. My Windows is fine, very very stable, the way I like it :)

XP, moved directly from 98 to XP and what a difference, yikes.
