I think he was just bringing it up to make sure no one even considered charging?

Plus, how could you charge if the winner isn't going to be winning anything but "DJ of the Month" honors?

Beatport has some promo tunes for free download too. Last month there were tunes by Airwave, Kerry Chandler, Infusion

I like what you're suggesting, but a DJ should only be limited by a music selection that he chooses, not one that's given to him.

:conf: Dude thats the whole point of the exercise, to see how differently we interpret & mix the same bunch of tracks. Should be really interesting.

No one has ever mentioned an entry fee. The context of a "fee" in this instance is in relation to buying tracks - obviously not everyone will own the tracks chosen for the list so we gotta go buy em. Tracks from ta producer forum would of course be free ...but using ta producer tracks immediately rules out any entries from our vinyl worshipping chums

That's what I'm saying...

If you read the older posts in this thread you would see that they were trying to get a set list of 10 songs that everyone would try to mix, and see who came up with the best mix. I'm joining the side that says you choose your own list because, ultimately, you're going to be more passionate about that and probably produce something much better than if you were forced to DJ other songs...

And if you read the quote that mentions the words "0 entry fee" (page 2 of this thread) I responded to that saying that there shouldn't be an entry fee...

...

Am I going crazy or are we arguing the same things?
:eyespop:

Edit:

I see what you're saying that might of confused me earlier... He was arguing that people shouldn't be forced to go buy songs and had nothing to do with an entry fee? Problem solved.

I vote for trance (I'd be happy with house too)

And I'm impartial to the track selection.

Well guys and girls a lot of us have talked about trance, or house, why dont we start naming some songs that may be well known (to emphasize how each can interpret familiar tunes into our own mixes uniquely).
Here are a few tracks I imagine a fair amount of you are familiar with in trance:
1. ronski speed - the space we are
2. andy moor - yearzero
3. saltwater - the legacy
4. gabriel and dresden - dangerous power
5. luminary - dark eyes
6. bryan kearney - exactly
7. Jose amnesia - louder
8. Sean Tyas - Lift
9. Cosmic gate - analogue feel
10. En mass - CQ

If there was confusion about 'charging'.... no, I meant 0 cost to enter. $0 spent a vinyl or digital download means more entries.

See IMO those tracks above are garbage, will vinyl guys really want to buy them?

Lets try to collaborate with the production forum and see if they can offer us some FREE tracks. Vinyl guys are out of luck, but I dont see them paying $100 for this contest anyway.

Lets just do a DJ contest, once a month or so... DJs submit a mix (must be current), we download them and grade them based on specific criteria.

But that defeats the entire purpose of this competition. This competition is about seeing who can be the most creative with the same tracks. If you want to do it your way, then go start a regular DJ mix competition.
lawrenceq
well hey I've named some tracks up there, other people should start doing the same until we come to an agreement where we all have familiarity with at least a few of tracks named... so start listing!

Jarvmeister
Yeah, ffs Boinked, if you can't be bothered to read about how this all started then sod off. We've got stuff to do and you're not helping with your interjections.

Let's also not get too hung up on what genre to pick either.

If this goes well, I'm sure they'll be a rotation of genres for next ones.

It's all about being creative, try something different and most important fun, right?
