| Please read this before posting comments. I am an almost 22 year old male who has, for the past 4 years gotten into techno/trance and see it as my particular genre of choice. My friends girlfriend and others I have come into contact with always think I am being "gay" or commenting that techno is only for gay men. I know this can often hold true, but for the hell of it I wanted to create this poll just to see. No offense is intended and I have nothing against anyone that is homosexual, I just want to see the numbers. Thanks |

lol
really reliable method man
how about this:
any trance or house you listen to basically owes its complete existence to homosexuality since the 70s.
who gives a if youre gay or straight or lesbian or bisexual or intersex or "questioning", that sort of categorization and division of people is exactly what we dont need in the world |

| Your friend's girlfriend sounds like a hoebag. Seriously, homophobia, like racism, pretty much always comes across as stupidity. |

Nah, I've heard it before from ignorant dumbasses who associate EDM (what they refer to as techno) as being music that only gay people listen to. I always tell them about electronic music festivals where there are thousands of people who attend where I'm sure some are gay but you can't tell me all those who attend are when it's estimated that around 10% of the population is gay. I'm sure there are many gay people who attend rock concerts as well, does that make listening to rock music mean you're gay, no.
I think it stems from a lot of club scenes where techno is playing in TV shows about the gay lifestyle (i.e. Queer As Folk) as well as gay-themed nights at certain night clubs but then ignorant people apply it to the whole scene. In the end, they're just homophobes and want to take a music form such as EDM and turn it against those they don't like, which IMO is a horrible thing to do because it not only shows ignorance against a people who are no different from them minus sexuality but ignorance towards music.
**Oh, and I'm not gay to answer your question...I just have something called "tolerance"....something your friends do not seem to have |

The only knowledge of EDM that most people have is what they're fed by the media. Meaning ty, stereotypical bull music they call "techno". Some of the things they call "techno" is like me calling Pink Floyd a hardcore metal band. Most images that the media portrays about EDM is in a flamboyant sense. I have nothing against gay people, I'm not a homophobe or whatever it's just that the media has created this vibe with EDM that it is a very flamboyant genre to listen to.
Which to this day boggles the out of me. |

| she's really not a homophobe as her brother is actually gay. I just have trouble "breaking the ice" with women I'm attracted to and thus she increasingly (usually jokingly but annoying nonetheless) calls me gay. whatever, should take it with a grain of salt I guess |

Yeah, it's really sad how the media paints a picture out of something and everyone automatically believes it to be true. I actually think the problem comes from the media portraying gay people as people who constantly go out to clubs and do drugs...this in turn sparked the stereo-type that listening to electronic music means you're gay. So it's really one ignorant conclusion drawn upon another, all fed by the media. |
