It's an Access Virus emulator that runs on PowerCore DSP hardware. I wouldn't call it a soft synth, personally. You need a Powercore in order to use it.
It's pretty easy to use and the sound is very good. Couple of bugs but no show-stoppers. |

| Diginut - is it as powerful as a proper Virus? |

I would never get one, they are very expensive.. no hands on approach, and what if something would happen to your card.
Although, it would cost me twice as much as that e-bay link, if i were to buy one new, where i live. |

You can use any MIDI controller with it.
And... what if something would happen to your card? WTF? What if something would happen to any other piece of hardware? How is that any different?
To the others - I can't really speak to whether or not it's more powerful or less so because I don't own a regular Virus. I can tell you that one instance will let you run 4 instruments and I think the polyphony is 16 or maybe 32... one PowerCore has enough resources to run a few instances but you'd need additional licenses and you'd probably want the resources for other stuff, like reverb.
I think it's a worthy alternative to a Virus B or C. To the TI, probably not. |

| Using a MIDI controller isnt quite the same, and yeah.. internal hardware problems within the PC is what im talking about, driver problems, compatability problems, interference with other hardware.. Its less likely something would happen to a Hardware synth just standing there, unless you spill hot coffey on it. |

| Hi, The virus for powercore, is like having a virus b at your disposal. If you buy the full licence, you gat a 16 part multitimbral virus on a powercore card. You are able to run 4 instances of the plugin, each being a 4 part. Depending on the patches, it's possible to run out of poly just like in the real virus b. The sound quality is almost identical. I've tried the same patches on the powercore and my virus c, there was a slight dieferance, but the virus povercore does not dissapoint in the sound quality category for sure. I have sold my powercore to Diginut, since I like hardware synths, and more hands on approach. But It's a great system for someone who want's to be totaly in the box. You can get a virus c for the same price of a new powercore system or cheaper on Ebay, so it's a matter of taste. You do get some great plugins with the powercore platform. |

it sounds the same as a virus B
you dont need 2 cards to run it so you can get it cheaper than that. The reverb included in the plugin pack is better than any software algorythmic reverb out right now so you aren't just getting a virus.I used to own a virus as well. The sound is the same as a virus B. |

Baloney. The only caveat I can think of is that they don't have Vista drivers yet. Aside from that, I've never heard of anyone having a problem with the Powercore. (The Virus is just a plugin for it) |

You'd have to ask DJDIRTY how long he had it before I took it off his hands, but I've had it for about a year, I think. I would easily expect it to last 10 years, assuming you can still get standard PCI by then (TC has PCI-E versions now, in any event).
This isn't like a hard drive, there's no moving parts on the thing. And it's pretty much the same inside an actual Virus B or C. I have video cards from 10 years ago that still run. |
