In my opinion Pentium 4 Kicks AMD's Big Fat Ass!!!
Amd have much higher temperature than Pentium 4
Here are a test P4 vs. AMD Xp
http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/02q2/020402/index.html

An Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz can be clocked to 2 Ghz++ with standard cooling!
And p4 also support RD RAM (that kicks DDR's Slow ass)

Personally I am an AMD fan, so thats my bias ;)
If you are buying high-end components then as far as performance playing games etc goes I dont think you will notice much, if any difference between an AthlonXP or a Pentium IV, this comes down to more your sound and gfx cards (another discussion completely). But for value for money AMD is way ahead, so unless ya wanna spend ALOT (Pentium IV 2.4Ghz RDRAM etc.) go for an AMD, and theres a new Athlon out later this month as well :D

Imm a intel fan, even though my dad uses AMD.I just think they are more stable. both have their pro's and cons.

Be sure to buy the best motherboard for ur cpu, my current fav company is asus but i hear abit are also recomended to

AMD for sure... Check out this animation my brother made... Will make u an AMD man for sure...

:D :D :D :D :D :D
I told him to put BT in there....
and maybe for u Cable ppl, a bit big.

pentium 4s may clock at higher speed but if i remember correctly an anthlon '1800' (i think) is more powerful at certain things (maybe multimedia) than intel, but intel is better at something else
plus amd is a lot more economically sound for your wallet
unfortunately i read about them a while back and this is all i can remember, but i would choose amd

Get a P4 if money is no object or Athlon XP if u want bang for your bucks. there will be a new version of the Athlon, the thoureghbred, comming out before the summer is over, so wait if u want a AMD. if u get a P4, get the 1.6A, it can overclocked to at least 2.4 (50% increase) with standard cooling and voltage.

I'm an AMD user, always have been, and I think you should root for the little guy. When it comes doen to it, the P4 at 2.4 GHZ is 2-4% faster then the athlon in some cases, slower in other benchmarks.

Go to www.firingsquad.com and read their P4 review.

However, for getting the most power for your dollar, the fastest Athlon is only 60% the cost of the fastest P4, and the speed difference is almost negligible. So don't get ripped off and suckered in by the clock speed wars. MHZ aren't everything if you know anything about CPU's.

This is probably the closest quote to the truth here so listen to it. I'm a hardware technician and if you want the nitty gritty the P4 was designed from the ground up to "ramp" or clock higher. The only catch is to be able to clock higher they got the processor to do less work in every cycle. Hence you have a P4 2000 being beaten by an Athlon XP 2000+ which is actually clocked at 1.67 Ghz so the Athlon does more work in it's clock cycles. The Athlon is also a slightly better all-round chip and is better then the P4 for floating point intensive work like games, mp3's and graphic programs. And yes they're cheaper then the P4

Case closed!

Well said. Also, Intel would be more than glad to monopolize the market. And charging over half a grand for CPU's is just not cool.

Make them pay for the $800 pricetag on the Pentium IV 1.4 GHZ release. MAKE THEM PAY!

Well normally i would go for AMD anyday, but i have been hearing some good things about the P4. Some very good things :)

i just read a review about the P4 2.4 ghz and they compared it alitle to the AMD 2100+ they say both these processors are extremely fricken fast which is quite obvious....they say the p4 wins in most cases but only by small margins and the AMD still beats the P4 in some places.....id say the difference between the two is marginal for everyday use...when you get to these kind of speeds everything gets down to like...oh processor A completed this 2 seconds faster...woop de doo! i say go with the an AMD save yourself a couple hundred bucks and wait 2 seconds longer ;)

PS...the only bad things about the new amds are they get really hot and dont overclock as wel as the new P4's this is because the p4 uses the 0.13micron arhitechture while the AMD is still using the 0.18micron architecture if you have awhile to wait you might want to stick it out for the AMD with 0.13 architecture which will be pretty insane seeing as how they already keep up with p4s now .... good luck on your purchase
