Tillman - dumbass or a hero?

Define irony...

You're an aspiring NFL star with a multi-million dollar contract in one hand and "patriotic thing to do" - e.g. join the army. You join the army. Most likely, the very same dumb-asses that used to have tailgatin' parties in the back of the parking lot (coz' they couldn't afford to buy tickets to see your games) end up shooting your ass in "friendly fire". you're dead.

Army covers up true reason of your death and parades your typical G.I. Joe, good ole American boy, football star to recruit more cannon meat/bodybag fillers. And then truth surfaces....

should have taken that multi-million dollar paycheck baby(and all the hoes you could have gotten if you weren't sooo.... dead)...

"War. Huh. What is it good for? Absolutely nutthin! Say it again!"

CNN Story

Not his fault his own idiots shot him, can't really blame him.

As for giving up a contract to play in the NFL, I think thats a lot less of a sacrifice then the idiots who give up their families.

He gave up millions and fame to fight a pointless war to make sure SUV's can stay fueled. Sounds pretty smart to me.

Wow, this is a really old story.

Reminds me of Muhammad Ali who refused to fight in the Vietnam war and ending up doing five years in prison for it...ing bull if you ask me.

The guy is in no way a dumbass...there is nothing wrong with joining the army to fight for your country, it is the policy that directs what the troops do that is wrong but this is beyond the choices of the soldiers of course. This guy was willing to potentially give up his career and ultimately his life for his country, he deserves the utmost respect. What an un-necessary death...yet another promising life cut short by the war:(

the NFL's way to keep themselves in the news during the offseason, before the draft in a couple of weeks. hey, we could be either talking about this old news, or Pacman Jones going to the Commish, and making a deal not to get kicked out of the NFL for being a dumbass. :o

Afganistan was far from a war about oil. The country is a ing wasteland with nothing really to gain strategicaly. We got attacked, we knew what nation was harboring the attackers and giving them material support, so we waged war on them. It was legit.

I support the war in Afganistan as long as it is about keeping the Taliban out of power. Those guys were off the charts.

Iraq on the other hand... :nervous:

For me, the story never really went any further than "He gave up millions to join the Marine and fight in an unjust war."

Idiot. No question about it. If he weren't dead, I'd wish that he were.

Afganistan was just the entree to get the American public in war mode.
Most of American military operations throughout history have been under the guise of something to appease the masses and benefit without having to answer for it.At least in Vietnam they had sucky sucky five dollah:o
