Don Imus called the Rutgers girls basketball team, "Nappy headed hos". He apologized, but people want him to resign.
Personally, I like don imus, he says some outrageous stuff sometimes, but he has a good heart. His brother makes kick ass salsa too. I always listen to him in the morning whenever I have to commute somewhere.

what do you think?
"Nappy headed hos"... Not really racist, IMO.. blacks' hair are pretty nappy. |

| He's an intelligent guy...but it sounds like he can be old and senile at times so he's bound to say things like that from time to time. Then again, I think people get way too easily offended nowadays. If he said the "N-Word" thats one thing...but dammit all he said was "nappy", who the cares? |

Not only did he make a sexist comment about women, he also made a semi-racist comment as well.
The double whammy of it is probably what pisses people off. I don't know anything about the knob, but if he has the tendancy of saying bull like this, then yes, he should resign. If this is a first, and he has publicly apologized, then I think he should be left alone, and keep his mouth shut from now on. |

Absolutely, he is a staunch advocate of autism in children. |

Why should he resign? Because he has offended some people?
The bull spouted by tools like Michael Savage et al. is far more offensive to me, but I still think that they should be allowed to have their silly shows, too. |

Theresa, this was a comment directed to the Rutger's womens basketball team, not women. They played like it was street ball, IMO. Trust me, it was directed toward those specific women, and not women in general, because of how they acted on the court. |

Even if he had made a comment directed at a wider group, I do not see why some people think he "should" resign. His employers could fire him, of course, if they considered it unprofitable to keep his show going.
I support the right of vocal idiots to be vocal idiots, I guess. :p |

Don't act like this is the first time this has happened. Imus is notoriously racist, and uses racist and misogynistic jokes and language provocatively on the air all the time. I think this was just another in a long line of calculated moves to insult both women and blacks. After all, this is a guy, who disagreeing with an article published by a black writer for the New York Times, Bill Rhoden, called him "merely an affirmative action quota hire," dismissing any merit he has as a journalist based on the color of his skin. Imus called Gwenn Ifill a "cleaning lady," despite the wide amount of respect she has in the industry, depicted by her selection as a moderator for the Presidential debates. He is extraordinarily racist towards Arabs and Muslims, often referring to them as "terrorists" or "ragheads" at face value.
His hired co-hosts are also inflammatory, calling Serena and Venus Williams non-human animals, all Palestinians beasts that should be slaughtered, and Kylie Minogue a whore for getting breast cancer.
Oh and his commitment to the autism cause? Noble cause, but it isn't exactly noble to champion it be threatening on air members of Congress who don't vote for legislation that he likes.
And with the Rutgers comments, he went on to call the national champions "hardcore hoes", "jiggaboos", and "rough girls with tattoos". It wasn't just a passing comment. Nor is it an isolated incident. |
