Good night overall
Got in around 12 and quickly met up with some TAs. Good to see a lot of people I haven't seen in a while. (Note to self: party more often!) Was kinda funny seeing Ali really getting into it and looking like he's having more fun than Nada.;)
Chris Allen set was ok and did its job for opener. Air for Life, Moonlight Party, Are you Fine (Vadran remix I think) stood out.
SvD is one of few trance acts I keep on top of and I admit I came with a decent expectation... He kinda met it. First hr or so was too trancey but 2nd hr was the edgey electro tech SvD sound that I've grown to love. Interesting tracklist in terms that it was perfect to keep the crowd familiar, while throwing down some new and unfamiliar stuff.
Sander van Doorn - Riff. Second candidate for tune of the year for trance. (The other being Talla 2XLC - Shine) Holy .
Left around 3am as the weather got real ty. Drive home was pretty crazy.
I love the venue. It's got such an underground feel to it. Intimate club that's got a lot of space, esp. w/ the 2nd floor. DJ stage was perfectly located, though tad a bit too high. Perfect venue whether it's for trance or house or techno.
Lighting was awesome, though bit overdone at times.
Sound was a bit too heavy on the bass and needed more speakers towards the rear. Up front was good though.
The crowd was perfect. The club wasn't packed (maybe about 2/3 full on main floor) but everyone jammed up to the front when SvD was on. They were in it for Sander. Some sketchbag issues, but eh. Can't help that.
Wonder how many people came from London... Seems like if TA presence is any indication, lots of out of towners?
Oh, the sketchy Easter bunny FTW! :D

SvD for 20 bucks? Hell yeah it was worth it. I'd def come back to Rum Runners for another event. Congrats on a successful night.
Overall: 7.5/10

:D I'm still beeming from all the energy and excitment from last night...it was truly INCREDIBLE. It's so hard to sum up the night in words, you just can't get that expression across like you would in real life.
Me and my 2 friends Alex and Jackie arrived at Diesel for the pre-party get together where Chris was spinning, got some dancing in, said hi to a few TA's and watched the leafs win as well! :) Chris you played very very well both at Diesel and Rum Runners, especially liked when you dropped Mark Knight - Susan and obviously moonlight party just made me melt!
Got to Rum Runners around 10:20pm almost the first ones there, so I really got the chance to appreciate the venue when it was empty. I went upstairs checked it out from the railings, checked out the back room with the couches, the lighting was perfect, sound was a bit on the quiet side but thats just because no one was there yet. I totally loved the venue and new it was gonna be BUMPING in a good hour or so.
More ppl started piling in, Chris Allen was spinning some bomb tracks and getting everyone in spirit for SVD. 1am comes and the legend himself comes on, and honestly, track after track after track he DELIVERED. It was truly something else, $20 for that? YES PLZ! He totally LOVED being here too you could so tell, smiling like someone clamped his lips up, hands in the air, clapping with us...he totally enjoyed himself as well as pleased us!
I'm not gonna say anymore, I could go on and on, I just wanted to get my point across that if any of you haven't seen this man play, YOU'RE MISSING OUT!!!
It was great meeting a lot of new TAs, don't wanna go through all the list but you all know who u are and you're all tons of fun to party with...love you all! :disbelief |
