Every situation we are in is real. We don't around in nursing school.
We practice our skills first on dummies in the lab at school. It's basically two big rooms with hospital beds and all the machines and . So we practice in there, and have to pass a critique before we're allowed to do it in the real world. |

Do you try to hide/avoid the question that this is their first time performing a procedure? Or do you have to let the patient know? |

you have to get the patients permission, 95% of them are cool with students doing it.....everyone has to learn :p

actually we hate having students follow us around like sheep, and they seem to cling onto the younger nurses because apparently we arent bitchy :stongue:
this will be my 3rd year out....
im an oncology nurse atm |

We always have to introduce ourselves to the patient and explain the procedure.
"Hi Mrs. Soandso, my name is Jennifer I'm a student nurse, and I'm going to be inserting your catheter today."
And so on.

LOL, well they love us at my placement anways...I know they love having a break. They're really helpful, hehe.

Hehe, yeah I used to really dislike it myself...but I have to admit it's grown on me. Still not my desired field though.
