Question about Beatport downloads...

From the looks of it, I might have to reformat my laptop. I have a desktop pc where I can save all my music and such, but I'm running extremely low on HD space on that. If any, I'd rather loose any or all of my already downloaded beatport tracks and retrieve them later (re-download). Is that possible?

I read the FAQ on the site and didnt see anything within that region. Steve I remember I while back you had posted something about how you were able to download some tracks from beatport after a new pc purchse or something like that. Were you able to retrieve those or how did that work?

Yep. You can email them with your invoices or just give them your user name. They can repost them to your library if they aren't in there. They are about to change the way they have their DL's to be like djdownload.com, where you can DL it twice. But email them first and see what they say. Another option is to get a cheap external hard drive with a back up and save them to that while you reformat. I had to do that before and I save everything to my external now.

Thing is, there's an error message that won't let me boot to windows. [0x80004005]. Gonna have to pull this laptop apart again and transfer files while I numb windows temporarily. Err I hate electronics.

I'll definitely inquire with beatport. Thanks dude!

Is that a fatal error? Do you get the blue screen that won't allow you to go through boot up processes?

You can bring your computer by the ITS helpdesk and we'll connect it to an external hard drive adapter if you pull out the drive. Just bring a CD/DVD/Flashdrive/ webspace and we'll put it on there for you. Its free so its just an option, since i know you go to UT.

Naw. It says "windows cannot acquire the license info and connot run windows" I can go through boot but it'll stop right there. When I click on the user icon to access windows, the thing pop up again and says the same.

That's what happens when you pay someone to install windows for you. The license is what's not letting me through. I don't have a genuine copy of windows. If I loose all my crap because of this I'm sending some troops to that kid's house.

you could just get one of those external kits from like compusa/bestbuy type deals and slave it to your main home PC and that should at least let you back up your files before you have to reformat it. There are ways to do some formats where you wont lose files but you'll just overwrite the windows installation. You may want to look up repair install or a dirty install. Those might be some solutions but no guarantees. Yea WGA and windows can suck it.

Yeah, just e-mail them. If you can't back them all up.... I work for iTunes and we do the same thing. You get a 1 time exception... beyotch! ;)

I would still recommend either partitioning your HD or getting an external for your music. I know my directory has grown to about 8 gig and I would hate to keep that on my PC. Just a thought.

Will do man. Infact I'm looking at some pretty tasty prices here on eBay for new external hd's. I don't know how I didn't ever think of that
