The Ecstasy Of Saint Theresa
Czech band/project, they make some brilliant downtempo/IDM oriented stuff, sometimes with a flavour of rock.
Make sure you check out their 2002 album Slowthinking, their last one from the end of 2006 is called 'Watching Black' and it rocks as well.
Highly recommended. |

I assume you've already checked out the Jimmy van M Balance 010 downtempo disc?
Emiliana Torrini
Hooverphonic
Coldcut
Lamb
DJ Krush
More on the trip-hop side of downtempo, but they're artists I've always liked. |

Um just pick up "Journey Inwards" by LTJ Bukem, or almost any of his CDs (though he sometimes plays faster stuff). You'll find lots of tracks like that. |

Search wasn't working again for me so I couldn't find my thread that I made a while back concerning ambient/downtempo. Thus, I have made my new one. I've determined I'm far more of a downtempo/shoegaze fan with a dabbling in triphop and glitch than I am a pure ambient fan. Vidna Obmana is a little hard for me to get into, and even some of Aphex's ambient works I've found a little too much for me (though I'll give artistic credit, it's just not my cup of tea).
Right now I'm listening to Explosions in the Sky. Great instrumental post-rock/downtempo. I went to see them play a few weeks back at a local pub and it was a tremendous show. I don't like much post-rock as it can sound tedious as , but when done well it can sound fantastic.
Anyways, diggin' artists like
Explosions in the Sky
Dntel
Hermann & Kleine
Christian Kleine
Sissy (their artist album still makes regular ing rounds)
Bitcrush
Clue to Kalo
Amon Tobin (one of these things is not like the other one)
and may I say the new Ulrich Schnauss album is delicious.
Anyone else got some recommendations. I've been looking for some with more vocals. Not vocals like in the new AIR album, Pocket Symphony, as those got a tad grating. Vocals like Sissy has in their album, All Under.
Anything good will do though. |
Hey, you've got great taste ^^ *high five* |

Hah, thanks.
I'm really diggin' some of the suggestions made in this thread. Emiliana Torrini seems to be up my alley, and the reminder of Sigur Ros has me listening to their Takk... album again. Gotta love those slightly odd vocals (I know it's another language, but it sounds like weird alien moans to me).
I'm also into some electronic synth-pop like Goldfrapp and Peaches. Just getting The Teaches of Peaches album again. I guess that's a whole 'nuther can of worms to get into though, with like LCD Soundsystem and the like. |

I'll try all of these since you seem to have a really fine taste in music.
And may I stress this in every single downtempo thread, but Sneaker Pimps are ownage. |

I neglected to say before that Moby is the king of ambient/downtempo in my mind, but here are some other artists that do some cool downtempo stuff.
Bent
Afterlife
Bedrock
Soulstice
Imogen Heap/Frou Frou
Conjure One
Gus Gus
I actually found most of the downtempo artists I know through compilations like Cafe del Mar -- the tracks I liked, I went out and found albums by those artists.
If you like Emiliana Torrini (whom I can't imagine you wouldn't), you might like Nina Simone or Nerina Pallot as well. |
