hmm I dunno...
There is being offended...like the Rutgers Team that got called Nappy Hos and there is taking offense...like all the people who werent involved in it and decided to get upset.
I think theres a fine line in there somewhere and people need to watch out how many issues they are going to become emotionally attached to. |

I'm not saying it shouldn't have struck a nerve, but why get so enraged over it? Especially taking into account why he would say such things in the first place.
There's a saying..."No man can make you feel inferior without your permission". Same deal with getting offended by this. :) |

Considering the fact that this is something that has absolutely no impact over his life, I'm inclined to believe that it's not just a personal belief of his, but a social belief against which he sees no reason to fight. And this is what worries me.
You mentioned he's religious. Probably, it is an excusable behaviour for him to be homosexual as much it is an excusable behaviour for us to be homophobic, because the society in which he lives doesn't accept homosexuality - and deviation often seems to bring society together (as pointed out by Durkheim, the founder of sociology, quite a long time ago).
Should you say this to anyone? Nah, not yet, unless he decides to take action. In that case, he might end up hurting anyone, and then you should step in, in order to save someone from getting killed, or something.
(Edit: And, no matter how much I feel I might understand the situation, I'd be fuming by the time he finished his analogy - which is actually the expected reaction, if you come to think of it...) |
