Wouldn't it be ing awesome if you could buy the sets the DJs played on some night directly from the club?

Like suppose you missed a really good set for one reason or another (going to see another DJ, couldn't make it at all, etc), and you go to the club next week, pay like $10 and buy the recording of the set from them. No cover art, maybe even no tracklisting, just a simple CD-R recorded straight from the mixer. It's the closest thing I can think of to being in two places at once. Plus, it would be soo ing wicked to be able to relive some of those epic sets you hear live.

I know all the problems with this, like copyrights, DJs being bitches about their sets being recorded, etc etc, but imo this is what's holding back music - all that legal crap when all I wanna do is just hear a really good set again, or for the first time. This is why I say "wouldn't it be awesome" cause I realize there's about 0 chance of what I'm talking about actually coming to life.

P.S. This is done in other places. One Nation in UK for example has a lot of their nights recorded completely, and sold later as like 6-CD packs. It's a lot of money though. Example: http://www.catapult.co.uk/?category=15&product_type=90

That would be incredibly wikkid.

As you said, there would be a lot of copyright problems with this, which is a shame.

I would personally pay up to $10 for a CD to have a keepsake of an amazing night.

I would have loved it if they recorded the sets of the DJs at WODNB.

hell i would pay 15$ cuz there is nothing like hearing a set over again that you heard live.

thats y i always take videos, since thats the closest thing ill have to reliving that experience.

that's a fantastic idea!

though I smell more piracy - people making copies and re-selling the sets for more, or just putting them online available for free (not that I would mind)

but the end result would still be great - sets in clubs could be so mind-blowing, I would love to have some of the memorable ones in my collection

would be great

more then once i wanted to keep a particular live set and it was never made available

live sets should be given away free, never sold. they are great tools for exposure of the venue and the artist. i personally think every club should record their sets and make them availble for free download on their website. share the love and music!

I agree, but at the same time, an artist should get some extra revenue if they spun a GREAT set, as many people would want to buy that set after. More of an incentive to actually try to spin a great set imo.

I'd have to agree.

I wish I could find the article. I actually read in DJ Mag about how Sasha (I think) was doing that. Not in 6 packs though. They would have the CDs ready by the end of the night usually and sell them for like 10 bucks.

So what happened with that? Was it a success/failure?
