Getting a fragment of a track stuck in your head... (pg. 4)

Three years on, my brain has developed a new and even more fiendish version of this damned affliction. Now I get it so that a track I've never heard before on a TV advert or whatever will have a snatch of harmony or chord progression or hook that reminds of a track I do know but can't name. This one is twice as bad because you're trying to ID a sample while a totally different track is playing, and it's not even a reliable snippet you've got to work on, it's a vague resemblence.

Yeah, this happens to me, both with tracks I know and don't know.

The weirdest thing is, songs can work their way into your brain out of no where. I had a sixty five year old co-worker who used to randomly get the Addams Family theme stuck in his head and hum it sub-consciously. I've never had it that bad, but tracks I barely liked and haven't heard for three or four years randomly pop up at times.

this use to happen alot from time to time, usually in the shower or on the train etc but it works kinda different with me. i dont care what the track is called im more curious on how it is played so i try to picture the piano and then it comes clear to me how it really is, and then i usually find out which track it is also because i usually do the same when listening to a track i like, sort of memorize it visually. its cured by listening to more music all the time though.
Chimney
I only get popular tracks like "Never gonna give you up" or "Telephone".

It could just be luck but I've found that sooner or later you eventually hear the song again.

Yup tis true, although sometimes it never happens, look at the Oakenfold Essential Mix ID's.

It happens all the time, it was happening just as I clicked on this thread actually :p

I think that the more music you listen to the more often it happens. It never happens when there is music actually playing, only when it's not...so my theory your brain is in withdrawal of hearing good tunes and begins to scan your memory banks for tracks you have heard in the past to fill the void.

Thats because your brain can't focus on two different melodies at the same time. Did you ever try to hum the melody of a song while another track is actually playing? It's pretty difficult.

It is so amazing, though, when the name finally hits you.

I've had some song stuck in my had for a while, and was just messing around mixing and somehow came upon the song. I didn't know until like 9 minutes in, but then wanted to have a party once I realized I was playing what had been stuck in my head.

Haha, awesome. This happens to me so many times, ever since i started listening to Trance. It's mostly old tunes though. A few years ago I knew almost every track that came out (well you know, I'd like to think so at least :) ) but I'm not keeping up with it as much as I did. Man, golden times. Glad to have experienced that. The last melody that was stuck in my head was from DJ Vestiga - Night Operator, and for the life of me, I couldn't find out it was this track. Then a fellow Dutchie helped me out, after i made a quick melody remake in Reason.
