At age 76,[5] Librescu was among the thirty-two people who were murdered in the Virginia Tech massacre on April 16, 2007. He was killed during a class in the Norris Hall Engineering Building by a student (Cho Seung-hui, 23). Librescu held the door of his classroom shut while Cho was attempting to enter it; although he was shot through the door, he was able to prevent the gunman from entering the classroom until his students had escaped through the windows.[7][8] A number of Librescu's students have called him a hero because of his actions, with one student, Asael Arad, saying that all the professor's students "lived because of him".[9] Librescu's son, Joe, said he had received e-mails from several students who said he had saved their lives and regarded him as a hero.[5]

Even though this tragedy happened at the most inopourtune time in this day and age. This one professor is in my book a bad-ass for having done this deed. I would expect my professors here at NDSU to do the same for me. Hats off to him for being a revolutionary in Aeronautical Engineering as well as a true hero.

I totally agree. That act shows he was a true teacher and not only there to teach his students but also to protect them in such circumstances. Truly a shame that he had to do such an act but nevertheless he's a hero.
LeopoldStotch
i guess he does.
not only should he be considered a hero by throwing his body in front of seung-hui, but it looks like he made some key contributions to the laws of mathematics. r.i.p.
respect to mathematicians.
