(im using albino) can it create say 6 different frequencies at the same time, or do i need to load the same synth 6 times and adjust the pitch of them all and then layer them together? thanks

The original Supersaw waveshape made popular by Ferry Corsten, Rank 1 and others is what you are talking about i think. As featured in the JP-8000.the waveshape was made by taking seven sawtooth waves and detuning them from each other very slightly.
I dont know much about the synth you are talking about, but try Z3TA+, the JP is not difficult to emulate, but is difficult to emulate well.

actually thought i better clear a few more things up.

JP-8000 = hardware synth manufactured by Roland
Z3TA+ =good software synth manufactured by RGC audio.

an oscillator is not the same as a frequency, an oscillator is a simple device which generates 2 variables, shape and frequency. a frequency is a measure of the oscillators speed. or the speed of a sound waves cyclic vibration.

your goal = to combine seven sawtooth waves, but detune each one progressivly more than the previous one.

The sawtooth waves do not 'bounce off each other' more like 'sit on top of each other'.

You are not in the realm of layering synths when trying to emulate the JP your more in the realm of layering oscillators.

You may wish to layer synths if the synth you are using does not have enough oscillators to create a viable supersaw.

Simply select the waveform for each osc to generate this should be sawtooth.

leave the first osc alone but with the next osc increase the cent value to 2

increase next osc cent value to 4 and next osc to 6 and so on with your seven oscs.

see if this 2 cent step thing is working, if not try a 3 cent gap or more cent gap see what sounds good.

when you have your oscs set up nice, find a good filter setting use a lowpass filter.

set up the amp envelope to somthing nice (your gonna have to learn all this yourself)

ferry always used a filter envelope setting to add character, so set up your filter envelope nice.

ferry often used some kind of frequency modulation, so set up your LFO nice.

add some effects.

EQ is essential.

delay is essential.

reverb is essential.

that should keep you busy for now. sorry about the grammer folks, but like that dude said, its not an english lesson and i cant be assed.

you will find a way to combine

Because he is.
Who has the nerve to say something is "toss" when they don't even know what it is? An idiot.
Who says something is a toy when countless top 10 tracks have been made from it? An idiot.

People don't like to waste their time on idiots that won't listen. It's like having sand kicked in your face when you're trying to help; the forum is better off without them. Someone who acts like a know it all and starts controversy, when they obviously don't know , deserves to get cut down. And that is exactly what happened. ;)
Mr.Mystery
I find it puzzling how he's allowed to call me out but apparently I have no right to do the same. That Cody fellow seems to have some obsession over me anyway... it's a bit scary.

thanks Roberttodd. useful stuff there, least you arent stuck up enough to share what u know, instead of these useless pricks.. i did read the stickies, but other opinions, put differently and from their point of view are helpful.. stick to the topic or the up - your wasting EVERYBODIES time.. u just itch to jump in oooh n00b question.. big deal, do we honestly need to hear it?? i didnt realise this was a proffesional forum, where do the non-genuis questions go?

do u think u have seniority here or something? if i see a thread on here, which doesnt interest me, i leave it the alone.. are u people trying on purpose to be arseholes? just like u dont want to hear my idiot questions, i dont want to hear your idiot ing POINTLESS ramblings. i got what i wanted -in the end- from my question on this thread.. but did it need to span 6 pages??

If you use a bit of emotional intelligence and pull your head out of your ass, I think you will see the replies were perfectly productive until you started saying things were toys and acting like a right moron. I will do a breakdown of the posts if you can't see it for yourself.

Let me know if you need any help.

EDIT: Just to be clear... Vanguard is a great piece of software which has been used in countless top dance songs, you just have no idea how to use it. People who have gone out and bought that software would find that irritating. How would you feel if you just bought a brand new Mustang and someone who doesn't even know what an engine is came along saying it was ? You dug yourself even deeper into the by replying agressively.

Get some sense, or get out of the forum. I can guarantee a ban is inevitable unless you grow up.

u compare vanguard to a mustang? a mustang is a beast.. vanguard isnt a high end piece of kit like a mustang; its at the other end of the scale.

just to be clear: vanguard is cheap. its oversimplified. everything is presets. u cant manipulate it nearly half as much its 'rivals'. and it has a pretty gui for idiots like u to understand. no credible producer would shout about usuing this peice of . its even marketed as 'ideal for beginners'. the countless 'dance hits' made with vanguard come from knobhead bedroom producers. much like yourself.
flutlicht junky
Actually it is used by alot of ppl, ive heard its familiar distorted rasping tones on quite a few tracks.

And my friend who has done engineering for some well known names has used on a couple of tracks and it does sound awesome when used well.

how can you give an opinion on it when you don't understand synthesis yet. You dont know how to create whatever type of sound you fancy. You lack the knowledge and expertise to master any synth.

Only when you have better skills and experience can you possibly comment on how good a synth is...

any simple product used well by someone who knows what their doing will still end up with great results. there is freeware thats could hold its own against professional stuff. its just on the scale of things vanguard is rather crap.
