I don't remember a lot of that happening in the original (it's been a few years). Is this a re-make or is he totally redoing it?

It's 2/3 remake, 1/3 prequel. Goes a bit further into Michael Myers' childhood to tell why and how he became what he did. It's not a scene by scene remake of the original either but Zombie just uses some ideas from it and adds bits and pieces into the original plot.

I was always a Michael Myers fan but with this one they are actually providing a reason for his evilness(why he killed his sister and stuff) while the original the guy was just plain evil incarnate. I'm not too big on that idea.

most likely, will not be as good as original.
hallowwen was so great for numerous reasons, one being the opening shot through michael's costume mask. i mean, that was just a great show.
