I'm in my 5th year, which would've been the final year if i hadn't failed some classes - i'm having to do an extra year to do the final project. The first 2 years were really hard, with a lot of math classes (calculus 1, calculus 2, linear algebra, probabilities and statistics, logic, theory of computability and complexity) and 2 or 3 physics/electronic classes which i sucked at too. Afterwards, it got all about programming which i'm much better at, so it became quite easier, except we have to spend a lot more time working on projects now. |
Sounds a lot like the program I did, well, the first few years that is.. Wasn't too keen on the programming stuff so I skipped that, took a lot of networking classes (the very theoretical stuff) and graduated on network modeling (which, unsurprisingly, involves the occasional bit of math).
Would love to put that knowledge to good use someday but apart from research, there's not a whole lot you can do with it.. And as I have gotten away from the university 2,5 years ago, I can't really see it happening anymore. Ah well, there's a lot of other interesting stuff to do and learn in my current job, so I'm happy with that. |

applying a formula and pluggin in numbers > reading books and writing papers any day!
plus by doing a math based major you'll probably end up with more money. ;) calculus owns! i use that almost every day in my quest to finish my electrical engineering degree. |

I still find it funny how they make most college students take that, then even though they passed that and all that hibbidy jibbidy symbols and formulas of calculas; they still can't do simple mathematics and need a calculator. :( |
that is so true. I know people that cant add/subtract 3-digit numbers without their calculator. It's quite sad, really. It may seem like a very basic skill, but I think it is very important for just about any profession |

yeah. i am a computer science major, and i had to take 6 Mathematics courses (Discrete Mathematics, Finite Automata, Cal I and Cal II, and Statistics I and II). Yeah i enjoyed math my whole life, so i had no problems with the courses. :D .
but don't give up dude. don't let 1 class be the demise of your college career. maybe the professor is an . |

| but i have to say without calculus, how are you supposed to take a derived function, and determine the change of velocity between start and end ? |

| funny thing is that i have been to the teachers office many many times this semester that she now knows me by name. Sorry but as a business major and im going into gemology i dont think i will ever use this stuff. We get to retake our lowest grade , which was the test i took today, and then we have a final. I just pray to god i pull out a "d" in the class. |

I might be bias because I'm a math major and LOVE calculus, but calc's relaly important for basic and upper levels of econ classes. Also math=power. |
calc 3 blew ass. i never liked it. basic derivitives and integrals sure.
finding the rate of change of a sphere w/ a hole in it, while it's moving in a direction in relation to some object....i mean, who gives a ? honestly? lol |

I go to a small school and most of my professors usually learn everybody's name in the class within the first week. I am assuming you go to a big school where you pretty much don't exist in the face of your professors. I guess that is one of the bigger factors of me not choosing a mega university. |
