Selling on eBay...

is a nightmare. I decided I'd be a nice dood and help my friend sell her iPod on ebay for some extra $$$. I half-assedly put up the auction and then head off to clasees. Some guy sent me 5 messages all basically asking the same question over the course of 4 hours while I was in class. I answered it when I got back and he promptly bought it out. The total including shipping was $85 and after paypal and ebay fees, we got something to the extent of $77; ing fees. After he bought it out, I waited a day and half for the money to actually get into my checking account. In the mean time, the son of a bitch had sent me 7 messages asking me to ship, each getting progressively more angry. Now, most of these messages, however, were sent between the hours of 1am and 6am MY time (the impatient **** is in Texas). I reply the following afternoon that I'd ship it that day. I pop it in the mail using the cheapest kind of shipping there is, not even really paying attention as to what type I even picked, but it said it'd be there in less than like 5 days. So that night, the guy messages me 4 more times asking if I'd shipped it and what the order tracking number was. I reply that I did and I didn't have a number; I honestly don't know if they even gave me one or if they did, I must have tossed it out or something. But, the guy messages me back about an hour ago bat ing furious that I didn't give him a tracking number. I replied that if it's not there in 5 days, let me know and I'll handle it. I'm awaiting his even more furious reply.
The point of this rambling mess of a story is that a.) people are ing annoying and b.) I'm done selling on eBay.
And on an unrelated note, I saw Hot Fuzz this afternoon and it was pretty well awesome. |

| When you ship something it's always a good idea to get the insurance (they'll charge you like 20 cents extra to cover an item worth a few hundred or more), and get the tracking number. Better be safe than sorry. If you've got your money, you ship the item and it gets lost in the mail, you're in trouble. |

| the guy probably hasn't bought anything on ebay before--ever. On the other hand, you probably should have given him a tracking number, but oh well. Unless you said you'd give one, you didn't have to. I wouldn't give up on it quite so easily. I've bought a ton of stuff on there & sold a handful of things with only 1 incident the whole time, when somebody didn't send something for a month, until after I asked where it was, and overcharged for shipping. Still, it got here. I'd much rather use ebay than craigslist, since there's an actual rating system that's fairly reliable, as opposed to buying something from a completely anonymous person. |

| yeah there's more work involved and less profit than you would think. ebay fees are high. the type of item attracts certain types of buyers. generally speaking young s are impatient as hell and annoying. the guy sounds like an ass but you should have given him the tracking #. live and learn noob. |
