| First off Kakoroto, I am asking for a pretty specific sound. Unlike many of the other threads, I don't just want any and all ambient or downtempo stuff. I want stuff that sounds like what I listed. Now I realize I can browse the links you have kindly listed, but again. One is comparing ambient and chillout, with hardly any tracks that I find to be relevant to the discussion here. Another was a short thread that linked to four other discussions, all of which pertain to ambient trance (nothing even close to what I want). Demoted's thread (your second link) was a lot closer to what I'm looking for, but still was far too broad for me. The last link was right up my alley for the first page, then the trance chill out crowd seemed to take it over. Anyways, get off your pedestal, I have no idea why I wrote you such a response when you clearly don't deserve it. |

Sorry I haven't been replying to your suggestions, I'll try to get to all them... Here are ones I listened to that I liked and were what I'm looking for. I suppose I am leaning more toward post-rock influenced electronica (I hope that makes sense)
Imogen Heap, if only most their songs weren't killed for me already.
Postal Service, but same problem.
Explosions in the Sky, definitely. Good suggestion, demoted.

-Eno and Glass are great, but not really what I'm looking for. I would say eno is too ambient for what I want and Glass is not "electric" enough, although Aguas de Amozonia was really cool.

-Schnauss actually inspired this thread (not in a good way). I thought his new cd was going to have more post-rock leanings, but it turned out to be much of the same. Oh well.

Try his Hotel CD 2: Ambient and Play's B-Sides, as well as his Ambient album (released in 93 I think). Those are his most comprehensive releases of ambient/downtempo stuff. The rest of the tracks I suggested are scattered sporadically through some of his other albums (like Animal Rights and Play).
Also, I think M83's non-single stuff bears a strong resemblance to Moby or Trentemoller sometimes, and definitely has that rock feel you're looking for. Try "Lower Your Eyelids To Die With The Sun", "Dead Cities, Red Seas, and Lost Ghosts", and "In The Cold I'm Standing". Or M83's remix of Depeche Mode's "Suffer Well". |

It doesn't deserve another thread. You are like EDM itself. You are creating a bunch of unnecessary sub-threads of topics that can all fit under the same category. |

- Boards of Canada take time to get into. At first listen on their latest CD (the only one I own thus far), I couldn't get into it, but after listening to it over the past few months, it's finally clicked in. You have to let it soak in.
- Autechre takes even more time to get into, but in the mess of noise and bleeps and blops, there is some beauty going on, something deep. But definitely...leftfield, experimental, minimalistic.
- Enigma's old music maybe not, but for downtempo stuff, definitely A Postetori, but again, it's not for every one. Their older stuff was more new age/ambient-pop/dance music.
- Slowdive..well they are shoegazer and the whinning, droning sound is part of the whole shoegazing thing. Slouvaki is nice though, probably their most accessible, and probably the only album i'll buy from them. The others are strange.....
- Tangerine Dream is classic progressive rock/kraut-rock/ambient, and although it might not be what your looking for, I am sure they influenced the bands you might be (the same with Pink Floyd).
- The Future Sound of London are quite electronic, but with some rock influences here and there. But yea probably not...
I think your definitely looking for something like Sigur Ros. Also check out "Tortoise" they are another post-rock band. |

Looks like Spirit5 had a pretty decent taste after all..
And Schnauss hasn't got a new album out. He did a couple of collaborations and remixes lately, but his last full lenght was Goodbye from 2007. |

I saw Goodbye has been rereleased with a slightly different tracklisting and a new/different mastering. I should give it a listen.
