So this kid , who obviously had nothing better to do with his time cracked a code to burn dvd's that he was to cheap to buy?

it's actually a fight for consumers who wish to do whatever they want with the media they buy.

It can be either for legal purposes (making back-ups of original source in the event of wear+tear, or putting it on a hard disk connected to a network, enabling you to watch your movie anywhere with the internet), or of course illegally by copying and sharing on the internet, for (or not) profit. Either way, it pisses off the angel consumer

this also goes for the DRM in online music services such as iTunes. my POS mp3 player didn't support .AAC(p), or .mp4(p), so i had to extract using a key to get it to free mp3 and now BT follows me whereever i go and i am :)

Everything gets cracked. I'm surprised it took so long really.

IIRC, there was a crack widely availible the day after Microsoft did those verification tests to foil the tests.

hah

it's no surprise it's everywhere now, whenever you try to ban a piece of information with the law it inevitably becomes more widespread.

lol @ the digg guys getting threatened with suits over this.

I'd love to see President HD-DVD try to take on the internets.

digg last night went totally bat, ALL the stories on the front page were about the key, and the first one got dugg over 14k times and then it got deleted, I think it made a new record the previous one was the iPhone story.

Do you guys think that this in conjunction with Wal Mart offering a budget HD-DVD player will win the format wars for HD?

double :conf:
no, not at all.
Nobody's trying to sabatoge HD-DVD (in preference to blu-ray or standard DVD). It's just a fight for consumer freedom and against DRM
