The state of politics in Australia

What are your thoughts?
How do you see the future of this country?
I believe that the changes this government have and are making are bloody ridiculous..
This ed up government, who are cutting back on university funding, public health, public education...
Work choices - These work choices get rid off penalty rates, holidays, sick leave.. The employer has the power to sack you without a valid reason.
The dollar has become everything nowdays. Even with universities.. You can now basically bribe your way into uni by paying for the course upfront... Equal oppurtunity is a thing of the past.
Climate change- Climate change you say? Who cares, the economy is more important. I dont see how te economy is going to be important when the sky around us is going to choke us to death...

What are your views?
Do u agree with what im saying, and if not, I'd like to hear why.
Sorry if this has come across as a bit of a rant, I've just been putting down these things as they come to mind.

Peace

:)

i dont agree with some of the things they have done and the policies but sometimes its hard to say the alternative is much better. something that actually pissed me off yesterday was watching an australian idol special where the irish guy from last year was at the ceremony for becoming an australian citizen and john howard was talking about it afterwards saying how great it was and how we need all the people coming to australia and becoming citizens. yeah right. so the message to the next lot of refugees from whichever war-torn country they are fleeing is: "turn around, unless you can sing and want to go on australian idol"

Look at it realistically - the Irish guy is probably educated; capable of earning money, so he's not only supporting himself and not draining the economy, he is putting back in through tax; carries some skills with him; knows how to live in Western culture etc. etc.

Refugees can offer.. what, to Australia?

Honestly, my personal opinion doesn't really sway one way or the other, but looking at it realistically - who will make the better Australian citizen?

you cannot be serious
which of these people will make the better australian citizen? wtf is that? why not which of these people can australia help the most by letting them become citizens?

Just have a look at question time, time n time again i'm completely disgraced by the way our country is represented by a bunch of bickering children.

I seriously cannot believe a bunch of the leaders have gotten away with blatantly disregarding climate change. Seriously let some forward thinking people take over for farks sake. what a bunch of arse.

About the only thing I can't complain about right now is our Lord Mayor..

JOHN SO FTW!!

i think the speaker needs to grow some balls and tell them to answer a question when asked instead of avoiding it and going off on tangents up to 5 times in a row.

Ask not what can Australia do for refugees, but ask of yourself, what can refugees do for Australia?

Nah, I don't really care.

I axed my original post (that Philby quoted) because I couldn't be bothered getting into it. Though Philby was too quick.

Either way, if people pull their weight then I am a-ok with them calling Australia home.

I think that Australia has some responsibilty to support those that come from less fortunate countries, but I also feel these people need to do their best to support Australia. Not to say they don't, but of course the government will accept Irish Idol winner over Durka Durka speaker. To think that a different governmental party will look at it differently is, imo, wrong. They'll all look at who can give the most to their country - after all, politicians are supposed to be in power to make best of the country :)

Regarding illegal immigrants, those that wash up on our northern beaches claim to be Afghans. Now, they don't sail from Afghanistan, they sail from Indonesia. Which they usually get to through Pakistan, and probably at least one other country in between. So they've been through at least 2 'safe' countries before they get to us. Thats not a refugee, thats illegal immigration.

what we have here, is a classic 2-party system, which means that either way, we aint gonna have no change: :(
the greens are trying to shake things up, but people don't vote for them cause they don't want their "untested" ways (how the are they meant to get tested if they're not given a chance???) in power: i don't particularly want greens in power either, but i still gave first vote to them so they can (hopefully) get some seats, and bring a little opposition into aus politics....
