You only have to read the topic.

ah... right. What a cunning inference Mr Mystery. The topic does say soo much.

I think this thread has run it's course. I vote to move on to more productive things.

Same.

Alot of people mentioned that he's got a massive North American fanbase and they hold alot of the voting power.

Oh well...

For the record, I've booked djs like j00f, Ferry and San because they're pure talent, not because of where they rank.

Through the simple processes of reading and deduction, my dear Watson! Here's how I did it my boy...

1.) The title says, "DJ Dan and the DJ mag top 100"
2.) The following pieces of text in your opening post...

  • "DJ Dan's ranked #5 in the world"
  • "Top house DJ in the list"
  • "Really makes me wonder about is ranking and how the fcuk that DJ Mag system works"

3.) The following piece of text in your post after your opening post...

  • "but I did want to go hear how an unknown DJ made it to #5."

Maybe you've never gone to hear a dj you were curious about, and maybe you've never been disappointed. I did, and I was...

Nope, every club experience I've ever had has been peachy! Of course I've been disappointed by certain DJs. However, I didn't go into the event expecting them to be any good without downloading a few sets from them and only going because of their rank on an incredibly inaccurate list. I typically attend events for DJs that I know are good based off of listening to their sets and tunes. Have I been disappointed by those DJs? Sure! It happens.

However, it's apparent to me that you went only because he was ranked so high and you expected him to be at a certain level. It's your own fault for trusting a bull magazine poll and going into an event without a single clue as to what he was going to spin.

DJ Dan's ranked #5 in the world. Top house DJ in the list... and he's come out of nowhere. So when I heard he was playing at a club in Shanghai, I just HAD to go hear him play.

There.

And there.

Not to read between the lines or anything, but for future reference, never take the DJ mag for granted, even if it's out of morbid curiousity.
It's quite a gamble and for the most part, you'll end up dissapointed.

You'd think after ATB's #9 rank, people would have learned by now...
DJ Mikey Mike
You'd think after Tiesto's #1 rank, people who have learned by now...

Orko
Others have said it, but thinking that DJ Dan was a nobody who got to #5 is laughable. He may not have the up front popularity of the other big boys, but he has been around a long time, and has a solid track record behind him.
Tony Morello
there's also the point of the dancefloor being filled with tables and chairs, i don't normally play an interactive set if there's nothing to interact with

dj dan has always played a wicked set every time i see him

he loves to come rock out calgary, the crowds are good here, many djs coming through have mentioned that
