I'm looking for a deep storyline and characters.

Have you not already played this? It's just an update to what was released in the states as FF2.

FF7 really isn't that great. The plot is weak, the pace of the story is too slow, the choppy 3d sprites on the CGI backgrounds don't mesh well, and limiting your party to 3 characters is a step BACKWARDS when it comes to battling. Personally I'm a big fan of FF4's crazy 5-member active-time battle system. FF7 brought nothing new to the series that hadn't already been done, the only difference between FF7 and FF6/FF4 is that FF7 was 3d. Shrug.

Lol, loser

I have to agree here. The game was pretty disappointing. The gameplay was weird and the story quickly became boring as hell.
Hopefully vol. 4 is better

I played the original US release for SNES and I absolutely loved it. I might be a little biased though because this was probably one of the first, perhaps the first, RPGs I have ever played. I thought the storyline was awesome and I have replayed this game many many times (too much actually)

Well I have some extra money, so I guess I will grab it.
I never really played RPGs until the PS1 (FFVII, Vagrant Story, XenoGears:) Lunar Silver Story Complete).

P.S., are ^^^ valuable?

FFIII, the one that was remade on DS, originally pretty much had NO story.. on the NES version, all 4 characters looked exactly the same and had nothing unique, like FF1, all attempts to make some kind of a story (which ended up sucking) were only done in the remake.

FFIV on the other hand was the first in the series to have a deep story and have similar themes to all the rest in the series. like a bunch of others have said here, it's also my fave :) VI and VII tie at a close second.

So this came out already anyone given it any playing time. As soon as I finish star ocean (ps1) on my psp I'll go grab it for some handheld rpg action. The reviews are great can't wait to check it out.

I was a huge-fan of the FF Series, especially 7 and almost failed my exams because it took over my life for about 4 weeks when it was first released.

I enjoyed 3 & 4, but my favourite RPG of all time would have to be Xenogears on the PS1. PS1 & SNES, up until the PS2 was released had all the best RPGS.
