ing hell - someone just came onto campus carrying a gun case that had a tranquilizer gun and electronic tags (for tagging species in the wild), and some idiot had to overreact, leading to the complete evacuation of campus in the middle of the first day of finals.

I should note that we have the #1 college of Natural Resources in the country, and such a scene is commonplace - not too mention the "culprit" was a UW teaching assistant and adjunct professor in full CNR/DNR uniform, heading into the college of natural resources in the same fashion he probably has dozens of times in the past 20 years.

I'm all for safety, but s sake - people need to use their brains at least occasionally.

Idiots.

was it a student that called the incident in? because honestly if i was all stressed out from finals and i saw someone walking with a gun case, i might get a little paranoid too. it's more understandable than a bunch of Lite-Brites, anyway.

Hey tranquilizer guns are scary. I think we've all seen "Old School".

Perhaps, but it wasn't as if he was walking around campus with it - he was pretty much unloading his car in plain sight and, from my understanding, with the help of students.

I don't know, I guess I'll wait to hear the full details later on, but the general "culture of fear" mentality really just s me off anyway.

lol, it wasn't a student either, it was a faculty member:

Here's the email I just received from the university.

quote:

In light of recent events, the College of Natural Resources Building (CNR) on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus was evacuated at 2:30pm this afternoon. Around 2:25pm a faculty member observed an individual entering the CNR Building with what appeared to be a gun case. The faculty member reported this incident to the dean of the college. The dean immediately notified UW-SP Protective Services. The Stevens Point Police Department was called to the campus. Law enforcement personnel ordered an evacuation of the building and conducted a room-by-room search. The individual was found and law enforcement determined that the gun case contained only scientific equipment.

Seriously, there are so many people who enter that building with cases that look like gun cases, there's absolutely no reason any faculty member who's been here more than 5 minutes should question it.

Ah well.

Clovis
RJT you should ditch the backpack and carry your in a gun case, imo.

maybe there's some inter-department drama that you don't know about! professor #1 may have stolen professor #2's pudding cups from the fridge in the teachers lounge and now this is just his or her way of getting revenge.

you don't with another person's pudding, imo.
