Differences between CDJ800s, 1000s, MK1, 2, 3 etc...

I'm a hardcore vinyl junkie. Been spinning for almost 10 years. I'm currently using my Techs and M-Audio Torq, which I love, and it's great if you have your own gig, but you're not setting that up in the middle of a clubnight/rave/etc...

So, I want to get a pair of CDJ's so I can get used to using them. I'm going to go with Pioneers, either 800s or 1000s since they are pretty much the standard.

If I understand correctly, the CDJ800 MK2 and CDJ1000 MK2 have the same platter on them. Is that right?

And what about the MK1 series of both?

And then what about the CDJ 1000 MK3's? Is that platter different?

I'm trying to figure out the major differences in each. If anyone could give me some recommendations that would be sweeeet.

Peace guys, and thanks.

i know, i've gone through a lotta threads already, didnt really find a great answer.

i guess the most important question is HOW DIFFERENT are they? Like if I got used to using a pair of CDJ800 MK2's, would I be able to hop on a set of of CDJ1000 MK3's and get the feel for them easily?

from all the posts that ive read, some of the key differences:

- 1000 has pitch resolution down to 0.02, 800 down to 0.05
- 1000 has waveform display, can play songs backwards, and a few other extra gadgets
- 800 is made out of cheaper parts (still works fine), 1000 is built rock solid

Overall, if you learn on an 800, adjusting to a 1000 shouldnt take much.

Hopefully someone can flesh this info out a bit

800 plays reverse too
800 has auto loops 1 beat, 2 beats 4 and 8
1000mk3 has platter stiffness control

its not that the platters are different, its the response. the stiffness and response on the 800mk2 is nearly identical to the 1000mk2. the 1000mk1 is a little looser in my opinion and the 800mk1 i cant tell you since ive never tried (however it is my understanding that the 800mk2 is leaps and bounds better than the mk1). the 1000mk3 have mp3 support, stiffness adjust, waveform and everthing the others mentioned. and this h as been covered in a million other threads.

i've used all.

the 1000mk2 is the best imo. best pitch resolution and most reliable.

How can the .02 resolution of the Mk2 be better than the .02 resolutions of the Mk3?

Care to elaborate? I've found them to be quite solid when I've played on them.

The platters on all mk1/mk2/mk3 800's/1000's do the same thing it's just the stiffness of the platter movement thats slightly different, the stiffer it is the heavier it feels. You'll see a lot of posts about how one model platter pwns everything but there doesn't seem to be any vast difference between them & you'll get used to whichever one you buy :) If you're really worried/pedantic the 1000 mk3 has adjustable platter sensitivity :p

I have 2 x 800 mk1. A mate has 1 x 800 mk1 & 1 x 800 mk2. It's no problem spinning with one of each, the mk2 took no time to get used to.

Have a quick look online for the major feature differences between the models then choose the one that suits you best. The 800 doesn't have every whistle & bell that the 1000 mk3's have but it does have the bulk of the features (I suppose the biggest difference is 0.05% pitch adjustment as opposed to 0.02%). The 800's represent good value if you're on a budget, great players :)
