I watched with friends and there wasnt one dry eye in the room.

Mexican directors kicked ass last year with Babel, Children of Men and This movie, not sure if Del Toro is Mexican or not(he has produced alot of his movies in Spain), but am glad Mexicans are taking their productions seriously again. Be sure to check out the devil's back bone, similar in style as it is a period piece.

I enjoy films with a historical backdrop and this one did a fantastic job weaving fantasy with the gravitas of the Spanish civil war. I'm not very into the fantasy genre, but I enjoyed "Pan" greatly. I was surprised that it didn't win the best foreign film at the Oscars, with all the critical acclaim it received.

Typical of the academy! The 3 amigos rocked the oscars and they gave the awards to stupid like the Departed, an idea stolen from Hong Kong cinema to begin with. There was a theme at the Oscars and it was give credit where its due but screw the best non the less. Babel was robbed (yes, am bitter about that one)!
