i need to know from people who HAVE it, is PC3200 or PC3000 a lot faster that PC2700 or PC2100?? And on the same note, is 333MHz a TON faster than 266MHz?? I just need to know if the differences will be worth spendin some extra money..

Also, is Samsung a descent quality ram? Comperable to Mushkin or Crucial?

Thanks, im just makin sure the is gonna be ok for my new rig and see if everythings not outdted already.. (been plannin for a while :p)

thanks

PC3200 ram and a 333mhz bus will be the most ungodly computer you have ever laid your eyes on!

Go for it, I say!

Im not sure about ram brands, I think any will do really.

PC3200 and PC3000 ram 'can' be faster then PC2100, but the problem is that the Athlong still runs as a 133 Bus, hence your ram running asynchronously at 166 won't do you much good. In some cases, running DDR333 with an FSB of 133 decreases the performance over DDR266, since your mobo has to arrange for the data to be sent at the right time.

My advice would be to wait for the 166Bus Athlon. If you need a PC, do not waste money on RAM right now, unless you think that you really _HAVE TO_ have DDR333 memory..

apart from that, i suggest looking at some benches... you will need a good mobo to see any performance gain from DDR333 at this point.

Go for it if you want but the actual bus of cpu (only 133mhz x 2) are not handle it and you won't much difference beetween 266 and 333 by now.

It could be a nice idea for the next generation of AMD cpu but now the benchmark shows that you will win only 5 % more of power...

In regards of price i won't go for it now...

Just my own opinion.

Buy a motherboard able to support both format and buy 266 cos 333 costs too much now...

I apologize but the last posts appears during my writing si i post it anyway...

Like the AT7?? ;)

This mobo has USB 2.0 Bluetooth, IDE ATA133 et RAID IDE but is less powerfull than the chipset from Nvidia the nforce so think really about putting $ in this chipset the KT333 or SIS745 cos' they're both weaker than the n20 chipset till the next generation of cpu has been launched.

Moreover you need to use really good quality of memory with this mobo else this won't work...

$ in MOBO + $$$$$ in memory = 0.5$ in power in front of nvidia chipset plus 266 mhz memory + amd athlon xp....

that's nearly the exact same setup as my system. tho I have only one stick of 512MB DDR. and I have a Sony 24X/10X/44X CD. With XP of course.

just a quick aside:
the nVidia nForce chipset is pretty much _THE_ most expensive consumer chipset there is.
not sure if it is worht it -i doubt is strongly-

MSI Nforce K7N420 pro

Prix : 159.00 € (1042.97 Fr)

Abit AT7 KT333

Prix : 217.00 € (1423.43 Fr)

MSI KT3 ultra ARU

Prix : 178.00 € (1167.60 Fr)

So really it depends of whick chipset of course KT266 will be cheaper but performance are not the same. Else N420 is cheaper than the KT333 chipset and now you can get the N415 for even cheaper prices without the nvidia mx chipset integrated.

So in regards of what is interesting to buy i'm still thinking the nforce worth it both on perf' and price.

At the moment everything is changing alot, the new Athlons out this month (Thoroughbred) still run on 266mhz bus as well, so KT333 c/set is a bit superfluous. As for pc2700 etc. the same. Why buy ram and chipsets that can run @ 333+ when the processor can only do 266 ? If you are going to seriously overclock fsb, then the 333 c/set and pc3000 might be a good idea, but most people won't. My crucial (micron) pc2100 clocks upto 160mhz (320mhz DDR) (without a voltage increase on the RAM :D ) so thats adequate for reasonably serious fsb overclocking, but atm pc2700 is about the same price as pc2100, so I'd go for pc2700.
Samsung RAM btw r0x0r, it is some of the best out there along with Hynix (Hyundai) imo.
At the moment I prob. wouldnt rush out for KT333 and pc2700 etc. as the new AMD chip (Athlon "Hammer") out December (alledgedly) runs on a 400mhz bus, so 333mhz isnt fast enuf for that, and more than fast enuf for current (266mhz) AMD chips.
VIA are supposed to be launching KT400 c/set before too long for the "Hammer" , personally I'm not doing a serious upgrade for a while, its all too expensive and changing rapidly (might be interested in a XP2400+ "Thoroughbred" tho ;) )

LoginZ ya missed out the Epox 8k3a+ mobo

click here for review of 8k3a+ :D

Epox it's not so famous in France but yep i miss it.

Else yep i do agree with skattrd it def' too expensive to change of configuration right now.

Except for KT266 or N420 and and DDR 2100 + XP 1800...

else to get better until new cpu has been released doesn't worth it...

lets put this into perspective real quick.... heres what im upgrading from:

Pentium Pro 200 Mhz
64mb DRam
20GB HDD
24x CDRom
Creative Labs SB16

i mean ... i dont even have a video card.. :toothless
therest is all , trust me, its about 5 years old and wherever I may end up itll all see fast to me. ;) I just didnt know whether or not the 333 was worth it, sounds like it wont be.. and im not waitin for the new AMD core to be released.. too long, ill be in school then.
