Tipping: When and when not to?

A few weekends ago I was at this club and ordered a drink. After I paid for it, the girl said: What about my tip? I told her sorry no. Besides I had paid for my friend's cover earlier that night and needed the remaining money to pay for parking. She caught an attitude and told me never to order another drink from her again. Another one of these episodes occured at this other club I went to except the girl didn't get mad. She was walking around selling shots at $3 a piece when they actually cost $2. When I asked her why the price, she said it was for her tips. Needless to say I got the shot from some other girl.
I always thought it was the customer's discretion to tip or not and not a required action. The only time I tip is when a service was being rendered. For example a waiter at a restaurant or someone going out of their way to make a pizza/chinese/food delivery, you know what I mean? But never a club. If it was that difficult for the poor girl to pour me a drink I would have done it myself. It is the equivalent of buying a drink at a convenience store, except that the cashier is not a pretty girl and I'm not being poured anything. You guys don't go around tipping cashiers am I right?
Do you guys agree?

i always tip, and tip almost everyone. However if its ty service they get tiny tip and and a snarl. good service = good tip which = continued good service.

Dunno. Here in Australia hardly anyone tips, ever. It's really not customary. :conf: |

When i go out to a club, a good portion of my money spent is on tips. |

it's bad form not to tip, but it's worse for someone to ask for one, imo. |

That's all I'm saying. It's up to the consumer not the seller. |
