Can trance without vocals be cheese?

I think not, since you need the 'cheesy' vocals to go with your 'lalalalala' song... (see ATC)

Sandstorm became cheese, it was not it originally. PvD spun Sandstorm when it came out and he's pretty damn anti-cheese judging from his comments on ATB. If you had never heard sandstorm and heard it today for the first time you would think it's pretty good. It was overplayed and Darude became a bit of sellout making remixes and other songs sounding just like 'sandstorm' in order to make money.

it sounded decent, nothing that blew my mind, it's just the fact that mainstream america embraced the song, and little head kiddies used to go around thinking they were 1337 R@V0RS because they listened to darude over and over. i heard it on MTV Video Awards show for christ sake, case closed indeed.

i did my cheese definations in a thread a long whiel ago. let me find them...

i cudnt fin them so here a minimalist version of the rules of cheese:

1) catchy gimmicky sample with no overall quality to the rest of the tune?, eg darude, resurection.

2)totally commerical feel to it designed to be in the charts, which must have vocals in that are cheesy. eg. fragma, castles in the sky.

2) sounds like its been made by sum1 with a really crap sampler of on Ejay. ie sounds tinny and jabby like a cheap piece of tack. eg, castles in the sky, lasgo.

they are the three laws of cheese :)

I know most people won't admit to it but a lot of the cheese songs are likable once they're being pounded on a loud system at a club and everyone's dancing. I saw a club go nuts to 'ATB - Hold You' and I admit I was enjoying the moment.:D Cheese is not so bad unless you get horribly cheesy stuff that just makes your ears bleed.
