| the essential mix is like a chance for djs to define their "essential", current sound in a two hour standard format. it's a level ground with a reputation for quality, definitive mixes where deejays know their sets will represent their sound, style, etc |

| forget all the ty radio shows, you're nobody until you've had an essential mix. Pete Tong has always tried to handpick talent to give a varied range of sounds. Sometimes he succeeds, sometimes he doesn't, but it's been going for so long. |

Who started the EMs?
Where this idea was created?
Is there a certain way to publish them?
Or is it just like any other mix?

The Essential Mixes were started in 94 or 92 I believe by Pete Tong on BBC's Radio 1. You can't really just 'make' one and have it published. I'm pretty sure Pete or someone in the Radio 1 camp asks for one.
Also they tend to be exclusive mixes for the show. |
