I've tried so hard to get into this sound, and I just can't.
Some minimal is more inspired than the rest, such as this selection, but it all strikes me as emotionally hollow. I still don't understand the popular traction. |

the emotion is fun, funky, bleepy nonsense that is produced well (there are exceptions to every rule). White man funk.
I love this sound right now. |

that's a pretty narrow statement.
Vinyl is the original, all else just attempts to replicate.
Digital is a nothing something that people pay money for!? I'd rather hold it in my hands.
Not to mention, reports over the past few years have shown an increase in vinyl sales, commercially. This is not necessarily true for DJs, but for collectors vinyl will always be the medium of choice.

I can't provide any good reason for my feelings, because, well, they're feelings. But none of this new minimal gives me the emotional rise that trance or progressive once did. |

the difference is, often times with minimal it's not about the track itself, but about the mix.
with trance and progressive, you mix in the track and the track does the work for you most of time.
so listening to minimal tracks alone will sound boring, they're made to be mixed, musically. There are exceptions of minimal tracks that border progressive in style, like Minilogue. |
