I don't know. I think there's some validity to what you're saying, but even a good minimal liveset doesn't do for me what a well-crafted progressive mix did years ago, which I can still go back to and enjoy again. The experience is qualitatively different. Progressive and trance had a certain fluidity that minimal doesn't. I can't shake the awareness that I'm listening to a long flow of clicks to bleeps to bloops; with progressive and trance, I was seldom aware of the format of the music, and certainly didn't have to think much about it. With minimal, I always seem to be conscious of how poorly I connect.
I understand the mixed story well enough, but not the medium it's being communicated with. |

Going to have to agree on this one. Music isn't ALWAYS about connecting with your emotions.

Maybe that's enough to keep some people going. It depends on taste and preference.
I know that I got tired of the "fun party music" angle before electro-house even faded. Where's the music that messes with your mind? I don't know, it's a bad time for someone like me who doesn't connect well with the new style. |

I agree. Although it's obviously the point, this kind of music is malnourished both melodically and rhythmically- the two areas where dance music is most effective for me. |

i find a lot of minimal to be lush and highly rhythmic. and the sound is refreshing like a clear mountain stream compared to the muddy sound you often find in most club trance and house. then again i get off on beautiful sounds, not just tracks. some if it is very human and full of soul, the sounds are so nuanced they are like voices
i go to a minimal party and find that i can't stop moving every part of my body
when the deejays start to layer multiple tracks with complimentary rhythms i go mad
but this particular track is obviously part of the 'hedonistic trendimal' style not the dark deep furious no-nonsense stuff |

There are great tracks in the style, like just about every other style, but it's hard not to cynical when you've been given two discs of scratchy, bleepy tech-house "minimal" to review. |
