First of all, Big Thanks for the Mix bro!

I've always been impressed with your track selection but this time you really killed it. I love your tracklist and sequencing on this one and most of all it was technically very savy. I like the fact that most of your tracks did not have long breakdowns and the ones that had you put them on the right spots. As a big fan of uplifting, vocal and melodic trance I was very impressed. Great job Blurr :whip:

The fact that I was listening to Armin's 2006 Year mix first. Where he was power mixing all hour then listening to your mix and every track transition, it was very smooth brotha :whip: If there was a glitch it would have had bothered me. But this mix was smooth. Got me and Jinny all worked up for PvD tonite.

Congrat's again on a great June CD1 mix and have fun tomorrow nite when you open for Steve. It's 9:30 pm Friday night here (Seoul, Korea) and off we go to start our Friday night party
DaveT
Jay, when do you not like something? ANd I'm being serious lol!

Blurr, you can hear me say it. It's rare. I don't like saying it. But....

Nice mix!

Not a fan of a few of the vocals track (just a personal thing -- I am picky on vocal trance cause most of it sounds like rotten cheese to me! ), but overall it's certainly enjoyable. I just try to tune out the vocals lol.

And I'll be honest...I have always felt the sets I've heard from you in the past have been missing something. Missing the journey aspect or something as I would be waiting for the set to go somewhere and it really wouldn't, IMRHHO. But it could be a taste thing. I mean, come on...you like some vocal trance I think is cheesedog lol. So in some aspects of the music, we just have different tastes. Anyhow, while I wish theere could have been a more stylish buildup to the fast staff at the beginning, I liked it enough to probably put it in my playlist at work today...which means I'll prob hear it two or three more times lol.

But again, I enjoyed this one overall...but some of the vocals ... lol. I seriously have issues with some vocal trance lol...as I just feel a lot of times the producers makes the vocal track since they have a higher rate of commercial success no matter how terrible it is.

Two little nicks with the set, though, IMO...nothing BAD....so don't be afraid to read on, lol.

This just might be a preference more. I personally love it when the first track or two has some type of buildup to it. I think it realy helps deliver an experience to the listener!. Whether it's with the BPM, the banginess of the track, or just the style of the track. But again, this might be a thing with me. I just like emotional buildup in a set/mix. Even if it's just a track or two to do it. This goes for me in clubs too. I am one who has a a bit of difficulty coming in and just going nuts to a fast/hard set right off the bat right away. If I come in and it's already going hard/fast my mindset gets a little funky and I sit around waiting for the one track that really catches me and then I'm good. Just took me a couple tracks to get into the mix, but maybe it's because the first track is an example of what I think is cheesy vocal trace lol.

Lastly....and this is a problem I have too, and I think it's just more of not being experienced a whole ton....is that we tend to play most of a track. For me, mainly because it's obviously easier to do the transitions in the lead ins and lead outs. But sometimes you get the repetetive simple bang bang bag with quick build up, QUOOSH, and the main part of the next track has kicked in. Anyhow, just that it turns into 9-11 tracks per hour and while some tracks can hold up for 7-8 minutes a time, some tracks really feel to drag after about 4 1/2 - 5 minutes (this is in general, not with any particular mix). The more experienced DJs usualy fit in about 13 per hour -- thinking of peeps like Armin, A&B, SvD, etc! They are just damn good at transitions a good 12-16 bars sooner in a lot of tracks than where the lead-out begins. I'm trying to learn how to do it well...but it's tough dude! It's tough! One well known DJ (who can play trance) who does play most of the tracks as a whole is Markus...and it drives me nuts sometimes. You'll hear him have some amazing set and he'll get to a transition where the lead-out and lead-in between the tracks is so long it just kills the energy for like two minutes and then it has to be built up again. Have experienced the energy in crowds fall apart for minutes at a time waiting for some lonnnggggggggg ass transition he is doing to finish lol. With fast trance, it's easier to get away with it because since you still have a good fast beat going that keeps the crowd moving while the transition occurs.

Anyhow, at least you have tracks to make up a solid set. I have gotten a good number of tracks lately, but it ranges across such a large range BPM and styles that when I do create a set with the new tracks it's a bit all over the place. There is a huge date gap between the tracks I received have gotten and my older ones. $$$ has gone to the baby lol. Least I am getting the transitions down! And good tracks on their own! Challenge I'm facing now is getting enough tracks to be able to have good filling sets. Wish I had the money to buy enough tracks to fill in all the gaps I need right now. I think I could get away with a set in a club setting, but I'd personally have a problem with it and I know how I like to hear progression...or as Taj likes to say, telling a story in his set...and if I can't deliver that, while I may enjoy my own set I will not be genuinly pleased with it.

Dj Blurr
Wow.

Waking up and reading this... Thanks guys! I really appericate the feedback from all of you.

When I create mixes, I always try to capture what Im feeling in the moment, and try to communicate that to the audience. My girl also has a say in what gets thrown down, she doesnt like cheese either Dave.. hehe. She has to sit here most of the time listening to my stuff, so if it dont sound good, its pretty much out the window..

Tommorow will be no exception. Like I said before, growing up I listened to Thrillseekers often, expecially Chicane - Autumn Tactics (Thrillseekers Remix). There is no feeling greater than knowing that the audience enjoys what they are hearing, expecially when some of you are tough as critics as me.

What also appeals to me is classic trance. Reworks that Djs take on like the new Ultra - Free (2007 Remix) I played when I headlined.. Or that up to date System F - Out of the Blue Track everyone loves by Akira Kayosa.. Not alot of Djs expecially big talent will play some of the older stuff. The only one I know that has the same taste so far is 4 Strings.

I'm also trying to stay true to trance, and letting some of the newer audience hear what they never heard before. Over the last 7 years, I think alot of great trance has happened. There is also alot of good stuff from the 90's that never got airplay. For example, There was a Heart of Asia track that came out a few years back.. I played this and every asian in the mainroom went absolutely nuts! Dave if you were there for my opening for the Euphonic night, I had no vocals throughout the whole mix. The only one I wanted to throw down vocally was the Alive Track I put in this mix, but qued up the dub version instead of the vocal edit!

You will also hear alot of these tracks in the club tommorow. Just I love the driving sound of some of them, with a little mix of a classic touch to them that just makes people want to dance.

My ultimate dream someday is to open for Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk or Tiesto. Weather it be in San Francisco or somewhere else in the world.. I do want it to be in SF. Ive made 1015 my home and they have welcomed me with open arms. Someday, I know Ill get my chance. But being realistic, being just a Dj wont get me in front of these guys. Producing tracks is where its at.

Another rush I get is when Djs like M.I.K.E., Piet Blank from Blank and Jones, and Ronski Speed come out and say, you in rock it, or your good and I enjoyed your set very much... Dude, that just takes me to a whole new level.

Like I said before, Its not everyday that a raver gets to speak his mind with his music. Im just glad you all love what you are hearing, and Ill always stive to do more. Living a dream is definitely the highest high.

Disc 2 is almost finalized. Hopefully I can get this one cut today, and have both ready for tommorow. Coming shortly!

Thank you all for the kind words!

:D

It doesn't take much to make me happy :stongue: I always try to look and enjoy the good things first before looking at the negatives. I think that's why I'm naturally a happy person :tongue2 .

But seriously, this is the first time I went on public to give Blurr a big kudos for this mix. Normally, if I don't like things I just keep to myself. I think I listened to my Grandmothers advise of "If you got nothing good to say, STFU":haha: Well, she didn't say it exactly like that but it's something to that effect. But that's not the reason why I haven't given you feedback on the mix you sent me privately, I just haven't had the time :D I'll just share my thoughts on it when I see you hopely next weekend.

But back to Blurrs CD1 mix. I really feel that this is the first mix he put out where technically he was on. Being a new club DJ I know he's still not consistent with his technical skills but I've seen him get more comfortable as he get more deck time at Ten. I have the same struggle with my DJing skills, I just can't have a flawless 2 hour set. Somewhere, somehow I find a way to screw up 1 or sometimes more transitions.

As I've said, I really admire how Blurrs picks his tracklist maybe because he always plays the style of trance I like but he still has room to improve on his technical skills and I glad to see him improve.

I just listened to CD2 and I'll take my 5th again :tongue2
