it is, and unless u had it, u should really just shut up about it.
i actually struggled for a really long time thinking there was something majorly wrong with me, like i was a moron or something. it was weird. thoughts like, "i KNOW i'm smart, but i feel so dumb". sounds lame, but it sucks. and this was back when ADD wasn't such a big epidemic too, so it never occurred to me or my parents that i had it. didn't discover that i did until i was almost done with high school. i've grown out of about 90% of it, but i definitely still have my ADD moments. |

i'm gonna try to get a script for it. |
Getting a script for it is pretty damn easy if you have ADHD or not. I was actually surprised as to how easy it was to get the diagnosis. I answered a couple hundred questions for the psychologist and out I walked with my shiny new diagnosis which = permanent legal script for amphetamines. |

yea pretty much lol i'm sure it wont be a problem.
i'll just be like, "i'm starting school and i know i have add because oh i like that picture on your wall, is that starry night? anyway, so i know i'm going to need it because i usually wait until the last minute to do things, sorta like how i waited forever to make this appointment, by the way, u have something stuck on your chair there...so u think i can get a script for some ritalin?":gsmile: |

| Modafinil sucks. I don't like speed much these days either. |

I don't know about the whole "ADD Epidemic" thing though. I'm sure there are kids that are legitimately born with the disability but I'm sure it's far less than the amount of kids on ADD meds. I can see the rise in the number of cases if its an environmental thing. More and more kids are growing up in daycares or in front of their TVs while their parents work which I can definitely see turning into disorders like ADD. If it's environmental though then it should be able to be taken care of with psychologists, not drugs. We want to prescribe our kids drugs but then we need to be like "well those are good drugs, drugs like weed and ecstasy though are bad drugs." Most kids are likely to ignore the difference. To many kids adderall is looked at as something they get off their friends who have ADD to snort on the weekends or to use as a study-aid. The more they prescribe to kids who don't really need, the more they can sell/give to their friends. This goes on but it's such a ing big deal to legalize pot for medical use for cancer patients yet we can give our kids copious amounts of speed because they're falling behind on their grades.

I'm pretty sure it's a crock.
They did the same thing prescribing anti-depressants for anyone that was feeling down and miserable, not just to people that where actually genuinely bi-polar or in danger of self harm/social dysfunction from depression.
Same with ADD meds, people see their kids are hyperactive, unruly, can't concentrate, short attention span and don't do well at school, so they load them up with dope.
Basically I think it's a kids prerogative to be hyperactive, unruly and have the attention span of a gnat... it's because they're kids, not adults! It's what kids do! |

It's what kids do! | i disagree. working in a school i've seen many kids who probably had ADD and could great benefit from meds. not being able to concentrate on their work, can't even watch a fun movie, tapping their feet, etc. these kids fall behind and are quickly labeled dumb, and are put in the remedial track, without a chance of college and a good job. if a little meds is all i takes as a parent you'd have to be crazy not to give it a try. its child's future after all. |

Just because a kid doesn't enjoy something he's told to do, makes him need drugs? In high school I knew a kid whose father never went to college and made $250,000 a year.. He never had much interest in school but was very much interested in computers and was able to thrive in the business model of reality rather than the academic model. School and grades aren't everything in life.
Aside from that, who knows how how these drugs affect the mind of a child in the long run, especially since they're on them everyday? Exposing my children to a mind-altering drug that could cause permanent developmental changes is not something I would choose.. |
