It doesn't CURE colds, no. But it DOES help in the production of white blood cells, which in turn boosts the immune system, which in turn helps to fight it off. |
Don't argue with the pie :) |

| Well that's all you can do really, when you have a cold. The more jacked your immune system is, the more likely you are to alleviate the symptoms. And vitamin C DOES help jack the immune system. So while you may not be getting rid of the cold, you're still fighting off those symptoms that make the cold seem so ty. |

Vitamin C does very little if anything at all. |
Vitamin C is much more effective when taken all the time before one gets a cold. It boosts the immune system even when you're not sick so when your body does initially come into contact with a virus your immune system is able to fight it off before it infects the body and causes a "cold." When taken during a cold it will just alleviate some of the symptoms.
It's also good to take some zinc when you're sick. |

Maybe if what you're taking it for is a bacterial infection. You can't treat a virus with antibiotics, plain and simple. They're two entirely different "bugs". |

this morning i grinded up some vitamin c in the juice...made it more acidic too so it was tasty for me (i don't like extra sweet juice)!
but yeah rest is good. i had to wake up around 5 am yesterday so i could help my mom do laundry while i was at her place and then this morning i woke up early because it was too hot and i didn't turn on the AC.
has anyone here used this medicine that supposedly helps to stop colds before they come on, or alleviate the symptoms? it starts with a z and contains dextromethorphan...i cannot remember for the life of me what it is!! they come in sprays...
edit: zicam is what i was talking about... |

i know there is a huge difference and that the penicillin based derivitaves are bacterial drugs. im very aware of that. i was just stating that for me it worked ok. not great but ok. it was precribed for me for bronchitis. :)
edit//amoxicillin worked better for me. |

while this is technically true and i tell people the same thing, being cold does lower your immune system response which can also lead to getting a cold. normally though this only happens when your already on your way to getting a cold but showing no symptoms. |

The point that I'm making is that not all illnesses are viral, and they're not all bacterial either. You can't treat a viral illness with the same meds you use to treat a bacterial illness and vice versa, because each "bug" has a different mode of infection and disease process, and therefore the meds are designed specifically for each type.
So then you must have had a bacterial form of bronchitis. ;) |
