doing the subbass (pg. 2)

trance & hiphop with subbass. hip-hop treats the bass as a whole different element of the song. with trance, the two are blended. one sounds far nicer than the other in a car with subs. i wonder what kind of system trance sounds best on?
DJ Sound
a perfectly flat system........so you hear the music the way it was produced and supposed to be....alot of trance producers dont get the credit they should because people never hear the songs in this manor... =)

example ..listening to it in my studio is wonderful

it might sound good on your monitors, like the WOOHOO BASS! feeling you might get when you jam the low end up way too high. sloppy bass isn't doing your music any good. and it's partially why i think trance is dying.

keep the bass short and staccato on your kicks. you don;t get that "ooomm" sound you get the "pom" sound which is so much nicer :D

put a stephan bodzin track on in your car and it will lack control, put it on in a good club and itll take the roof off. bandpass boxes can produce a punchy controlled bass if they are designed right. it is without a doubt, your sub and amplifier that is making ther music sound like .

get a low powered 8" woofer in a long folded horn that takes up your whole trunk. run it with about 300Wrms. thisll solve your problem.

Hey, i am curious now, can you name few tracks that have offending subbass?? I would like to hear them on my sub.

well i was listening to "trip in trance" compilation with hiver and hammer. i forgot exactly what tracks but alot of them had that crappy out-of-sync subbass because of the kick. i also listened to gu 10th edition (the 3 disc one). while this one was alot better on most tracks there was still a few. dont remember the names, if you REALLY wanna know then i can go look

it's a q-logic box if that means anything to you. nice box but actually on further investigation i might be having a problem with one of the subs in there (Polk Audio, 2 12s). because of how the box is designed i think if that one sub isnt working then it acts as a passive driver and it's not creating hte right pressure mode in the trunk. do you think that could effect the punch at all? it sounds loud INSIDE the car but outside you can barely hear the sub.

a blown sub will act like a passive radiator. and a massive box suitable for two 12inch subs will really be slow, boomy and uncontrolled if one of the subs is running as a passive.

i would get a 13.5" circle of plywood cut and replace the blown driver with it. so it blocks the hole. now you will have a more controlled sound.

also, to run a pair of hi-fi 'polk audio' or similar 12" drivers to a clean hi-fi quality you need at least 1000watts rms of seriously good amplification. a combination of high power and good damping factor of the amp will determine the control and punchyness... higher damping number=better control. my studio amp is a 2100wrms power amp with a damping factor of 800. the average damping factor of good amps is about 300. really good amps are between 500-1000. i can run a 18" bass driver very well with this amp, and wouldnt attempt trying to get a hi-fi sound from 2x 12" with anything lower quality than this amp.

personally you should seriously try a 8" woofer in a medium sized sealed box. throw loads of watts into it and itll sing!

when buying a replacement, you should look at a speaker like this one-

http://www.usspeaker.com/ciare%201200sw-1.htm

just get one of them and sell your polk's. the ciare 12.00sw is a monster with amazing efficiency and a proper hi-fi sound. its the best choice if 12" is where you wanna go.

rundown on the specs:
Total Q (Qts) .38 <------this means the speaker will be warm yet punchy

Compliance Equiv. Vol. (Vas) 32 Liters/1.13cu. ft. <-----means it works well in a small box

Voice Coil Overhang (Xmax) 11.5mm <---means it can move lots and continue to be controlled

BL Factor 25.28 T-M <---very strong magnet for a 12" driver

Surface Area of Cone (Sd)m2 0.049m2 <----quite big which means it will move more air.

yeah the plywood idea sounds okay for a temporary fix, i can just pull out the old driver and screw the plywood in. i run 500watts to one sub currently. its a bridged monoblock and i agree 2 12s needs alot more power, but for this box, not the kind of power a sealed box would need.

an 8" sealed woofer for trance is probably okay, but it wouldn't do the kind of hollow chested bass that bigger subs can do.

i am going to replace the polks. they are very old. thanks for the infos

have a look for ciare 12.00sw woofers in your country. nice units. shop around cos i just saw then @ £99 each in the uk. a place called www.proaudioparts.co.uk does them. and make sure you get the 4ohm version for your car!
