edit: as i listen to these mixes the more I believe we are in the midst a 'new old school' period with a lot of the stuff that's being done in the various forms tech house especially. check out the track at 33:40 minutes in this mix and then listen to matt flores - blackboard universe. even reminds me a bit of michel dey hey - compounded (peter horrevorts remix)
i find myself gravitating towards these supposedly 'new' sounds, but at the same time as I expose myself to older music you just find out that it's not really new at all. It's still good though :p
in the above set you can hear the origins of everything from lawler's dark prog/tribal to dark prog breaks, and drum and bass. |

That's what I've been saying for awhile now. :p People find new names for this music all the time, but the stuff has been around for a long time. Lots of instrumental deep house and tech house is basicly just late 80's style acid under a different name. |

This set is amazing. I'd forgotten where I downloaded this, and was blown away when I dug it up today and found the thread. The music could have been made yesterday and it would still be top notch quality. Definitely one for the permanent collection.
Goes to show that there's more to dance music than all the damn disposable trends.
Thanks for sharing.
(PS: Feel the warmth of vinyl. Oh yes.) |
