m2j won't you lose your client if you tell him that he doesn't need a condo when he just asked you that?
Promoters build condos for a reason, land costs more and more and the only to offset that is to build more and reap the profits. |
definitely. i totally agree. if a client asks u to build something, u dont say "nah i dont want to do that." the developer will just go out and find someone who will build it for him, and there are plenty of people who will.
mahan, you need to provide more details. anything can be built anywhere, but u dont want just 'anything'. you want a correctly articulated space which gives back to the city somehow. that is why we need to know a bit more details on where the space is, which will give us some sense of how it should relate to other spaces and what is the logical thing that can be built there. |

Sorry for the confusion. I have not been contracted by the developer.
This proposal is for a competition, in which the winning team/person will have their structure built.
The developer asked for a condo, but they seemed rather unsure of how to use the space. At the Q&A they seemed rather open to ideas and asked competitors for ways to use the lot.
I realize that submitting another design may automatically disqualify me from the competition, but I'm not doing this to win. Even if they just flip through my application, I hope they pick up on some ideas which will later influence them in constructing the condo.
However after reading some responses in other forums, I have started to question whether the problem are condos themselves, or just the lack of innovative design.
A lot of people commented on wanting more green space and that living wall sounds like a really cool idea. I may end up designing a condo after all... |

| I would like to see the whole waterfront covered by one big, long pedestrian street, flanked by parks and small restaurants/pubs/coffeeshops. Basically, make it a space where people can just walk around for hours, and feel like they're not in the nitty gritty of the city anymore. I think the waterfront should be Torontonians' escape from the everyday city life. |
