View this Thread in Original format

I'm going for the first time at the end of july / beg of august. Any recommendations on a nice hotel? Taking the girl, so no college spring break type places. There are so many friggin places to chose from, it's overwhelming.

hurricane season doesn't really start until the end of august / beginning of september, plus i always buy travel insurance for the tropics anyway

i went to a place called the flamingo... it wasn't too expensive and if you get an ocean-front room like i did... i couldn't have asked for anything better for the price... plus it was right across the street from some mall and the outback steakhouse... everything is within walking distance or a bus ride...

i also stayed at the cancun palace before... more expensive but was really nice / all inclusive... just make sure you get your money's worth when you do an all-inclusive... drink and eat excessively - it's a vacation, so live it up while you can

i was thinking about an all inclusive, but i'm always worried about the food quality. was the food good??

How expensive is it to eat in cancun? Relative to NYC.

food was good actually... lots of different things to choose from at the all inclusives... so depending on how much you want to eat and drink, it's sometimes a good deal...

food can be cheap if you want it to be... it's kind of up to you, probably cheaper than NYC but depends on where you go / what you want to eat... it is a tourist location so prices are higher than out of the hotel-zone...

If you're looking for an all inclusive I would definitely recommend one of the palaces (beach, cancun, sun, moon etc.). They are all pretty nice and they each have multiple restaurants, and you can pretty much eat/drink all day long at the pool if you want to. There is a bus line that caters to all of the hotels on the strip so no matter where you are you can hop on the bus that comes every 20 mins and it will take you "downtown." I would definitely stick with an all inclusive...cancun doesn't have great shopping and all inclusives will take you on excursions and things :)

I'll also be in Cancun July 22 to August 4. Actually I'm flying into Cancun, and the rest of the plan is flexible. I'm going to trek around to all the Mayan stuff.

I could go a week early and catch Jason Jollins playing in Cancun. But that would mean missing Rhode Kill. Can't do that.
