Neither program has a poor anything. Everything has it's pro's and cons and in the end it's just a matter of preference and workflow. What works best for you? We can't answer that. Stop being lazy and download the demo's and try for yourself. All 3 mentioned are very powerfull production programs once you master them.

I wonder how many other opinions you base on this, er, logic. Seems to be quite a popular way of thinking, sadly.

I'm not convinced that the makers of a $600 audio production program are all that concerned about the 5 year old Gateway owning market segment. (although it runs just fine on my 5 year old machine)

Mr. Jingles, I think he was being sarcastic with his post.

I'm afraid that people may have misinterpreted the title of the thread: Logic, Abelton or Reason?

I would go with Logic. Ive used Logic, Ableton, and Reason. The stock plug-ins in Logic are absolutely amazing. Ive found it to be very easy to use and I just love it. Its definitely worth the money but you must have a Mac these days for Logic.
sm44
yeah, ive played with logic a bit and love it
i dont know if its just because i want something new or a change but fruity loops just doesnt do it for me anymore and the standard vsts arent that great
im sure a great producer could get great sounds from it but i just cant

and yeah definatly getting a new mac for sure so logic seemed the better choice
especially the amount of plug-ins you get standard with the program

If you're main reason for switching DAW is rendering, Logic isn't a good choice imo. Soundscape, Pro Tools HD ( don't bother with LE version ), SawStudio ( although they are DSP based powered DAW's ) are what you should be looking at. Their sound engine and in the box summing is better than Logic and Cubase imo.

If I had the choice to make, I'd stick with ableton cause it's a waste of money and time to switch DAW which will hardly make a difference anyway. The user affects the sound of a mix more than anything else.

D. Cubase Reason and Abelton...

Cubase because I love the sequencer and all of the lovely VSTi's!
Reason because of the incredible sounds you can generate!
Abelton because of the live remixing!

You cant go wrong with any of them. All pieces of software are incredible. And you may hear this often, it doesnt matter what you use, its how you use it! Good Luck!

Ableton is just a sequencer. I use Reason to make the sounds and I run Reason through Ableton to play my songs.

Download the demos.
Test them out.
And avoid everyone arguing over stupid .

I have used both Cubase and Sonar in the past, now using Live 6.

Reason is a production suite - don't confuse it with Logic or Live (or Cubase, or Sonar). You can compare it the FL and Project 5 directly.

Now, if you want to make music and want a very powerful all-in-one, get Reason right now. If you want to get into the minutia of sequencing, get Logic or Cubase. alternatively, if you want an easy to use, real time sequencer, get Live 6.

I'm really diggin Live 6 - have it for about 2 months now. Since I am into making electronic music, it is a big help to me. I'm not saying that Sonar (that I used previously) was slacking, just that Live has much better work flow for loops and DJ mixing. It isn't a candidate if all you do is compose music (scoring, orchestration), but good for just about everything else.

Keep in mind that Live is both PC and Mac, Logic is Mac only.
