so, i cant remember the last time edgar played a mainroom set where he wasnt opening, so karen and i decided to check this out. we havent been to space since last december, and as former space regulars we figure its been too long.
arrived pretty early before 11, drove by, and already a line was forming, but nothing too bad. we go park and drink a few before heading in. around 11:15 we go the space line which has in about half an hour ing doubled. i havent seen a line like that since conference 2005! but apparently its an every weekend thing there now. ing terrible. we wait in line for about 15 minutes, until we noticed that the bouncers are helping certain people in by not others. so we tip the mofo $20 and get to the front of the line. boom, we're in in 5 minutes. ive never done that before at space, and just the fact that happens all the time now, makes me dislike the place even more. so we walk and in, and suprise suprise the dance floor is pretty ing empty!
so whatever, we get in, and same old space. doesnt look like much has changed. other than the led lights that came on a little bit later, it was the same . can someone tell me why space is such a big deal if you've been there a thousand times?
so at this point, we're trying to hit up the 2 for 1 drinks before it ends at 1am. now, maybe this is how they do their business now, but they only had one bar, the far back bar, where the booth used to be, serving drinks. the first bar was completely closed, and the vip bar wasnt doing the 2 for 1 drinks. how ing gay. it seriously took 20 minutes to get any drinks at all. now, listen, as a space vet, i know how it can be. but at 11:30pm. that?! i dont mind waiting awhile when its 2-3am cuz , they are busy, i can understand that, but that ing early? from a business point of view, wouldnt space be making more money if all the bars where doing 2 for 1? i dunno. i guess they do it because the little kiddies cant handle their liquor and would be throwing up everywhere if they had easier access.
ive said this the past couple times ive reviewed space and ill say it again. the crowd that goes to that place SUCKS now. all it was was a bunch of reffy ing barely out of high school kids being cool and seen trying to act rich when you know they arent cuz they are only there for the 2 for 1 drinks anyway! i swear, ive never seen so many gay oversized stripped polo shirts in my life! they crowded the bar so ing bad. they dance like morons, and they swing drinks around wetting anyone in sight. there were 2 bitches, def under 21 who were dancing one minute, falling down on the floor the next, and then being picked up by security, who then proceeded to make out with one of the girls! wtf?! these kids are a disgrace. but lp knows this is where the money is. that ing prick. but whatever, 1am came around and those people vanished like a ing fart in the wind! thank god. the annoying people where all upstairs now listening to that hip-hop and the bar became nice and usable. id rather pay more money for my drinks and not have to go through that hassle than ever getting a couple free drinks.
overall, the service at space sucks ass. they used to care about their customers, which they really dont anymore unless you're ing tony too cool over there and know the inside of luis puigs moms snatch, you're ed. it seems to me, from someone whos been to space many times over the past half decade that they are caring more and more about their "image" rather than just being "space is the place." that used to be the saying back in the day too, but they didnt have a big ing banner outside. they didnt have this horrible staff. and they didnt have this ing joke of a crowd who cant handle themselves even through just drinking. its ing pathetic is what it is. now i know it makes money, but its ing lame. for those people that attend space on a regular basis, i dont know how you do it. i can easily think of 10 ways to better spend a saturday night than subjecting myself to that, whereas a couple years ago i wouldnt want to do anything else. it really just feels like im that table at a restaurant who waits 3 times as long for their food than any other tables, gets their food cold, has it taste like , etc etc when im at space. and if you were put in that position, wouldnt you complain to a manager?
now despite all that bull, i still managed to have a good time. but it was only due to the company and the fact that i was expecting space to suck. good to see everyone out though! its been too long.
onto the music i guess... edgar played a VERY progressivey house set. i heard about 2 and a half hours of it, and sorry edgar, i heard 2 semi-decent tracks. i knew he was building his set up, but god damn i was pretty ing bored with the he was playing. he probably picked it up later and probably was throwing down some nasty , but i cant sit through that forever waiting for the good stuff. finally left around 2am.
space will not draw me back there unless they bring in some ing talent! end of story.
and i know all the reasons the i was bitching about happens is all because sapce doesnt care anymore and are just cashing in before they have to move so no one has to tell me that.

| got in around 11, Edgar was already on. Ofcourse, the first few hours of Edgars set were rather bleh. Around 1 he turned it up though and fun was had. Great seeing everyone! |

Grosssssssssss. Yet typical and me is not at all surprised.
Aside from the $20 tip, how much was it to get in? Parking?

flo, Space is not ever good for main hours, i have not got to space earlier than 4am in the last 2 years, remember the real party at space is when the gaymos you are speaking of go home and the real party people come.
i know exactly what you speak of as the last time i went to space early i told myself i am never coming before 4 unless its Sander or someone who i may actually want to deal with that .
Even on regular OG nights he doesnt start cranking the party till 4ish then from then till 9 or 10 its on. You have to remember its an afterhours club if you get there at 11 you are in the group of non-music oriented kids, like you said, and believe me i know that isn't your style. If going out at 4am inst your thing then yah id say Space is not for you cause that is when the people who know whats up just start to get there, and usually i don't even do that anymore just wait till 5-6 and go straight upstairs, everyone knows the terrace is where the real party is and that always rocks! |

I got a HUGE complain from last weekend! Gonna def e-mail my situation too.
Last weekend someone at Space doesn't know how to copy and paste correctly cuz I was supposed to be the first name on Edgars list and my name wasn't there.
It's how they handled the situation that pisses me off. The 2 door guys were such dicks. Even when I had Edgar on the phone they didn't wanna talk to him. They completely turned their backs to me. Edgar had to fuking walk away from the booth and outside to tell the stupid bald jerk off to let us in.
I don't know if you need a college degree in copying and pasting but it's really not that difficult.
Now about the review. I think Space's mainroom is made for Trance. Everytime I have seen some house dj inside the main room, it just hasn't been my cup of tea. As for the Patio sets.. They are UNBELIEVABLE! ld get there way after 4 am. Mainroom + House doesn't do it for me.
Also, bashing Space just cuz you've been there a million times is kinda weak. Space is a GREAT fuking club and trust me if you have partied in the West Coast with 90% of the club doing the "washing machine" or partied in Dallas where they had a bounce house at a rave you will not take Space for granted. New York is great because it has about 10 different EDM clubs to choose from but none that I have been to even Compare to Space.
Not even a club branded with the name "PACHA". On that note I am dying to hit up LA in Sept or Oct cuz I know the club situation over there is a little bit better then the places I have been too. |

| i agree with flo's assessment of last night. THIS COMING FROM A SPACE LOVER:) The people were straight up wacky lol. Usually I don't feel that way when I'm in the main room but whatever. I can't put my finger on it but there's something about Space that makes it what it is. Vanguard in LA for example, is a great venue imo, but just doesn't have that "thing". OH well, disregard my blabbering, hangover central here.:D |

truthfully the last few times i have gone in the mainroom during "normal" hours, lol, the peeps have been gross, just ing nasty, unless its a big dj night then its better, since the weirdos don't like paying $40 to go into to that. The early morning crowd for some weird reason seems to be better, until about noon, then it starts getting very, very weird...:wtf:
as mel said for trance and big room sound, it doesn't get better, this is really a plain fact not just the opinion of many like minded individuals. But indeed the regular pasword or regular nights like last nite (not in any way saying EV is regular cause he is better than alot of dj's that demand much higher costs imo), the caliber of folk in the mainroom is not very good. the other thing is space is ing packed like alll the time now from 12-5, its crazy, again i can't deal with that, its why i wont go to PvD, cause i would of love to gone, but i cant deal with the peeps all over me thing like i used to, upstairs is never packed like that. |

Well my real close frind that works there has the 3am till 2pm shift now so we had to make the line, regardless it was still free at the enterance, enterace line was pretty full, skip a couple of people, but it was alright. I really dislike the guy that FLO paid to get in fast, everyone knows that guy it stupid, and takes money all the time. He takes his job retardily serious.
Edgar started pretty mellow, but once it was ON there was no stoping him!!! His last couple hours were sick from what I witnessed!!!
As far the crowd goes, same people, same every other weekend. I never try to mind them!!!
