this one popped in my mind today:

Hardhousers = Candy Kids
erin_the_angel
lol...actually a lot of hardhousers are candykids!!!!
its quite funny!

actually u get a werid mix of people ar parties here......cause usually they will have every possible type of electronic music at em....not just trance or hard house

so u get ur little candykids that listen to hardhouse...or...errrr...even worse...happy hardcore....

then u get ur junglists...who wear black hoodies and phat pants (stereotypically)

then u get ur techno kids like me...which are just a weird mix of everything....

then u get ur experimental geeks as well

and your funky house kids...usually pretty preppy!

over here funky house people are grand master snobs, hardhousers have bad attitudes and are hard drug abusers, people who like techno seem to think everything else is and talentless... then theres cyber kids :) we just have fun and do no harm!

carting around lights? how the hell do you have enough elctricity from a generator to have a fancy light set up???? no true raves that have been to have...the only parties that i have been to that have decent lights are ones that are not true raves....but rather here it is in that stage of getting commercial and its terrible...cause people start coming cause they think its "cool" not cause they luv the music and the people!!!!

How is it commercial just because it has lights? Where do you organise your raves, the middle of the desert?

How would you define these 'raves' you organise? I usually define a rave as a mass attended outdoor event, such as Global Gathering or Dance Valley. An underground rave is a highly attended event which is either illegal or privately organised, and an underground club is an illegally or privately organised night, at a location frequently used. That way, most people know what you're on about.

Underground clubs often will have lighting. A couple of strobe lights for 20 quid each make a big difference, and take up very little power (the cheapest even run off batteries). Underground parties/clubs can be anywhere, not necessarily a warehouse. I havn't heard of many here but there are loads in London.

noo..i'm not saying that having lightin is commercial....juts most parties that tend to have good lighting here tend to be over commercialized things!

the technical illegal rave is a paty in which it is in an illegal location blah blah blah....if you've seen the movie groove it kinda reminded me off some of the true party's here...with the exception of someone like digweed showing up......usually they are lesser known dj's in some warehouse type of building, or old community centre.......and the guys who put em on don't have the money to do too much with lights......have very little usually...no over the top lighting effects and lazers

funny thing is..there was sposed to be a big 3 day party in pretty much the desert (well teh badlands as they are called...but basically desert...you need a dust mask if your gonna be walkign around.....i think they are dumb but otherwise u'd choke on the dust)!!!! then the cops found out about it and shut down all the nearby roads and confiscated the vans that people had teh speakers in and stuff.....

he he..actually i have noticed that the funky house kids here tend to be snobs as well!!!!

teh hard housers are usually harmless tho....just bouncy happy people

and wot can i say abotu teh technoheads...ur right..half of em do think everythign else is ......but then the other half are usually pretty diverse :)

see...some things follow through between the countries :)

he he..at least someoen i can get along with on these topics!

the weirdest r the junglists...they think they are all mean and tough.....3 of my guy friends r d n b dj's actually! quite odd.....2 of em used to live with my ex (who was kinda a minimaly trance/techno dj) and they had the oddest way of thinking about their music.....and plus most d n b dj's can't mix worth i find! its much easier to mix cause of the style of beats and the way it is expected to be played, much more cutting and rough mixes r accepted...
whereas with trance it has to be clean and smooth, which i personally find harder (lol..my ex as wella sthem insisted i know how to mix and would always give me lessons.....was quite funny....)

Commercial simply means it is done with the aim of making profit.

Almost all of the music people discuss on these forums is commercial, but most people seem to forget that.

I wouldn't call any underground gig 'commercial' if they weren't charging for entrance.

Personally I'm not one of these cronies who scoffs at lasers and other lighting. I'm not a big fan of lasers, but I think if you're going to have a traditional attitude all the while, you may as well mix with gramophones.

Seriously though, if you havn't got enough power for lighting, how are you running your 1200s and your speakers? Lighting for small/medium venues is fairly cheap, and powering some cheap strobes is nothing. I think what tu_face said is fairly believable.

As for the main discussion about cybers and candyravers, the only difference I see is that cybers like reflective stuff. But I don't go for all that toy bead stuff anyway. A shirt and a pair of jeans'll do me. It's nice to see people who make an effort though, adds a bit of variation to the crowd. Personally I can't be arsed, I'm there to have a good time.
