I don't mean to sound ignorant, I'm only 16 i don't know anything at all about the music biz out there, but how exactly do you get to know these "persons" till the point that they decide to hire you withough even hearing what one of your sets sounds like?

Word of mouth mostly. You go over to someone's house and play a nice set and they tell someone else. Etc...

Either that or someone is your friend and because they know you and your taste in music they trust you to play a decent set.

There are many different ways.

I kind of get it but not completely. I mean how do you befriend a club promoter? Is it mostly for interest or does it happen naturaly and sincerely? And you guys are usually young, I see a club promoter as this guy in his mid 50's with white short hair and beard quite obesse holding a cigar. Maybe its because I don't have any friends that genuinely dig edm to know, but it all seems kind of a rare situation to me.

If you like EDM you frequent the venues where it is played. It isn't really a huge scene so you get to know everyone after a little while. Most promoters are not 50 years old.

nope, just bein' cynical

i haven't played out in nyc since i first arrived a month or two ago :p

besides that i don't think my girlfriend would be very happy about that. i'm actually really disgusted by all the hobnobbery and pretense in the scene so i usually just hand out demos, make nice, and then hope for the best. as long as you have a real job it's fine that way

no

i'm going to be living in rome for 4 months starting in about 3 weeks so i've pretty much abandoned dj promotion and i will be doing pretty much straight production work until january. when i get back to nyc then i'll get serious about gigging. since i was only going to be here 2.5 months it was kind of pointless but just wanted to get my name out
