i would say get technics also. you buy them once, and you have turntables for the rest of you life.
it's like the difference between kia and honda. doesn't matter how many options and amenities come standard in a kia, it's still a kia. you're not going to get the same build quality, reliability, or resale value as a honda.
if you prefer to drive a kia, or feel that it's a better value for what ever reason -then that's on you. |

Ahh, you fanboys always crack me up :stongue:
Believe it or not, I've read about techs breaking on these very forums by the people that come here - and you'd think they would know how to handle their equipment.
Bottom line - there is no such thing as foolproof technology, sooner or later something will always break. That's not to say the techs aren't reliable but they are not indestructible either. |

| Stantons or Numark for extra features, Technics for solid build quality. |

My thoughts exactly. |

Yeah exactly. Have you been into a club recently? The 1200's are all beat to hell, and in many cases, don't work properly. They aren't that indestructable.
And as for resale value... 1200's are definately still the best for that, but that is changing with so many people selling off their decks.
I'm quite sure the Stanton ST-150 is a good deck. It's been out for a long time now, and I haven't heard too many rumblings about it.

what kind of bull is that?? apparently to you maybe :D
i got Stanton T.120C and I played on Techics 1200 several times, even done a side-by-side comparison T.120C vs SL1200 and i tell you ppl - I'LL NEVER TOUCH A ING SL1200 AGAIN. my friend compared both and said that buying a Techics SL1200 nowadays is a waste of money. unless I want to listen to Lewis Armstrong vinyl all day lol :wtf:
and that extra torque gives you so much more freedom and precision ;) |

Is everyone on ing crack or something?
1200's are the industry standard for a reason.
I've played on 1200's from 1983 used in a club environment before and guarantee you (as once a Technics service engineer) that in 2020 you won't be able to find a working stanton (or any other brand) TT that has been used even in bedroom use.
The whole Torque argument is absolute bull. What are you going pull you 4x4 up a hill with it or something?
You're playing delicate records on them. 1.5kg/CM is surely enough to push round 200g of plastic?
Seriously, even in a club, if you service your techs every year, don't spill beer in them (too often), and don't let drunken muppets use them like fisher price's "my first decks" then they will outlast you.
Stantons, are crass knock off's that try to wow people with more colours and don't forget more Torque (oooh).
When you've taken a few technics apart you really realise the quality of the engineering. |

But it's not 1983 anymore.
Nobody is denying that 1200's are proven quality decks.
But just because they are quality decks, doesn't mean that the competitors decks are crap and shouldn't even be considered. Maybe we should dissect an ST-150 and see what makes it tick... the thing is a lot heavier than a 1200, so it must be pretty solid.
And 1200's have their own issues... Why the hell did they never make the cords replaceable (and so easy to damage)? The ground wires are super-cheap and break easily (the ST-150 has a groundless design, no ground cables needed). Until the MG5, you have to disassemble the deck to replace the pitch slider.
A lot of the features of these higher end decks are compelling besides torque: Integrated pre-amps (should you choose to use them), key-lock, varying speed settings, reverse...

Exactly! Stanton and Technics have produced quality decks. They do about the same thing.. Just go with whatever you prefer or can afford at the time.
I hate that people think just because Cds & Ableton are coming in - Vinyls dead. What kind of closed mind is that? I use all 3 methods and in the end its not about the deck. Its how you use it. |
