I've been in Europe for a while now so I've encountered many from the UK and Australia.
There are a list of words that you use, that we do not. I've even sat with a lad (there's one we don't use) from the UK to try to explain some of the words. Here are some off the top of my head. I'll start with the first one you here flying with British Airways.
Queue - (we use line) The term "queue" is used more in British English, while the word "line" is used mostly in American English. Canadians use the term "line up".
We don't use reckon
We don't use lad, nor mate.
We don't use cheers as a greeting or as a hello. (We only use it when we want ready to drink an alcoholic beverage with a friend.
We rarely use the term wicked. (Hope you enjoy some wicked parties here in LA!)
Anyhow, seems as if though you might be staying in a beat portion in LA. I suggest possibly upgrading to a Hotel or at least and Inn. Try the Renaissance in Hollywood. (Good central Hollywood location @ the Hollywood & Highland Complex/Kodak Theater).
Your UK Pound is very strong compared to our US Dollar. So basically you get half off everything/everywhere since you get 2 US dollars to every 1 Pound.
Not sure how long your staying on the West Coast but you should look into staying in LA for a couple nights, SD for a couple and try to even fit in a Vegas trip!
LA has the good the bad and the ugly! You have been lucky enough to encounter some of the nicer/cooler individuals LA has to offer.

tell me about it, i've got a handful of mates/buddys/friends on the east coast...some of the debates you can have over the language are hilarious.
i'll check out the hotel suggestion. we are on a bit of a budget though, and the suite in the Venetian we're staying in on our last night in vegas has meant our accomodation budget for LA and SD has become a bit tighter!
yeah, we're doing vegas, san fran also. |

Amsterdam? Great place. Can be very seedy and strange at night but you'll just get used to it. Prepare for the usual drunk english tourists, and the men on street corners offering cheap drugs.
Find the smokey cafés if you are into that stuff, there are plenty of bars and restaurants around the main canals. There are some decent clubs out there, but i havent a clue whats going on in them at the moment.
I'll be travelling with Farma_UK next month, appreciate the help.:) |

tip: use hotels.com to find the hotel you are potentially going to use and then call them directly. you can normally secure a better rate and also places like hotels.com can up your reservation. or worst case not even make it!
also...try your best to book the same hotel all 3 days that you will be in LA for the weekend. it normally results in cheaper rates.
also for events watch www.westoceanevents.com periodically. its a great resource for locations, dates and tickets. |

mon 3rd: sd
tue 4th: la
wed 5th: la
i'm still intent on findin some places to party i might add!!

awww well, that sux cuz you're going to miss 2 really good parties on saturday, Sept. 1st in LA. Picotto @ Vangaurd, and Digweed @ Avalon (both on same night).
Maybe someone in SD can tell u whats going on out there that weekend. |

Friday night (31st) I would go to Element or Vanguard around 10ish and Spider Room (Avalon) after hours around 3 AM.
Tuesday 4th - Social should be good with House downstairs and Hip Hop upstairs. Element is pretty Hollywoodish if you wanna see some celebs.
Wed 5th - If your into Drumb and Bass and want you lungs to vibrate go to Vanguard. If you don't mind mostly hip-hop, I could get you guys into Mood.
